Glad you are sorted. Now the real fun starts!
Thanks you guys - much appreciated again - and yes that's a job for the weekend smile

If we're feeling brave the other side of this how about setting up a sticky with a list of leads that work - happy to test every USB to micro USB I have as well as the various serial to USB leads?

Just to add while on the subject of leads..
I bought one of these so the lead sits more flush with the ecu and therefore less chance of the lead pulling on the ecu while its tucked away behind the carpet. Works a treat.

Just open the file as you would a pdf and it will launch the app with that file and store the layout in the app's database so next time you run the app, the same settings will be used.

Greg
Just an FYI for anyone else updating their layouts

I used Astro File Manager (free) and Android File Transfer as Mac's don't support Android file systems straight out of the box

Then as Greg and everyone says copy over the layout files to your Android Device (I used the Downloads folder) and then open them using the File Manager you have installed and they will automatically install themselves into RS-AJP

Nice stuff Aide and layout designers smile

BTW a tiny suggestions from having a drive and debug today but when Fan 1 and Fan 2 came on they were Red - should this be Green to indicate on rather than Red which I took to be them not turning on

Hi Aide,

I used your software on my Sony Xperia Z3 tablet for a while now (as in previous posts).
Everything was fine until I came back from holiday, but now it does not seem to recognize the ECU anymore. -I know this sounds silly.
As far as I can say nothing has changed in the setup: car, cables, tablet are all the same. I do not know about software updates, they seem to happen automatically?
Did you encounter similar problems? Is there a way of resetting? Should I de- and reinstall the software? Could there be an issue with some Android update?
Android is version 5.02, RS AJP is 1.10.

Thanks
Henning
Unfortunately I have the same problem with Sony tablet (Z2). Everything worked fine with Android 4, after update to Android Lollipop (currently 5.1.1) the app stopped connecting ECU and so far I have not managed to make it work.

Viku

Hi Aide,

I just double-checked and Android is v5.02 -I don't know if this is some version specific to Sony(?) as the update function says there is no later version.
Will find a WinXP laptop today to check there is a signal at the ECU.
Still wondering...

Cheers
Henning

ETA:
Thanks Viku, I don't feel so alone now;-)
Hi Guys

Just to re-iterate.

The App doesn’t rely on any release-specific features.

And, there are quite a few users using the app with Android Lolipop so I don’t think it’s a version issue.

However, a quick google search suggests that Sony have messed with their OTG.

So, the App is fine, but Sony have broke something on their side.

HTH!
Aide
Finally! Second Android update after the initial Sony Lollipop fixed the problem and my Xperia can again be used with RS-AJP.

That's good news! smile

Please feel free to update the Compatable Devices section of the RS-AJP Sticky

Best wishes (and have fun!)

Righty, stick with me please...

So, finally bought a nexus 7, got to the ECU and the cable that is external only has two sockets.

No problem, whip off the metal cover of the ECU and plug in a cable that I thought was appropriate.

App does not work.

So ordered the serial cable from amazon... not very long so I dont see how this would permit me to mount the tablet far from the ECU. Also I presume I have to "saw" the nodes off either side?

Do people then leave the cover off the ECU with the plug in place? What extension do they use?

Sorry many questions that I am sure Aide has replied to, but not sure where to look them up.

Thanks again guys

Yes cut the screws off or do what I did as someone else on here suggested I used a right angled adapter
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291206042635?euid=ccd839...
as it keeps things neater against the ECU. I have short term cut a piece of cardboard and screwed that back in place I will use this cardboard as a template to make something more stable rather than cutting the original ecu cover.
I used a usb extension cable that I had lying around to give you the lengh to mount the tablet in my centre consul.

The cable I made (details a few pages back) allows you to close the lid if you make a shallow notch in the case of the ecu where the lead exits. The cutout only has to be about 13mm wide and 1 or 2mm deep. I used an angle grinder. You can also make the cable to any length you like - mine joins the USB rs232 adapter in the gap behind the stereo.

Thank you both... so then do you have to use a specific cable to get form the ECU to the dash as both seem short.

In regard to making a cable, I would love to but am largely buffoon like incompetent. Anywhere I could buy one?

I've had some luck and acquired an old Galaxy S3.

I instantly thought "I'll stick this in the Cerb and get Aides app" but needed reminding exactly what leads I required so searched out this thread.

So what exactly do I need to order so my S3 gets charged while connected?

I'll be removing the 6x9 oval speaker from the center console and making a mounting plate so it can be quickly inserted/removed as required, probably, eventually, if I ever get round to it. Anyone else mount a screen in the console area?

Hi Byff

All the cables you need are on the RS-AJP sticky at the top of this forum.
The extra cable you need to charge the Galaxy S3 while connected to the ECU is availiable here

That's the one I needed, thanks.

After being an Apple fanboy for so long, it's took a while to work out how this playstore works but I finally got the app downloaded. Looking forward to getting it hooked up to the Cerbera now.

Hi All. I acquired a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1" screen and bought the cable and the app and it all worked a treat with the layouts all perfectly sized, but the screen is massive as I want to use it on the move and be able to use speed camera apps and music.

So I invested in a Google Nexus 7. I cant get it to connect with the OTG cable I bought from Maplin, which I thought was the same as listed here, but isnt, so returned that and ordered the correct one (I have no idea what the difference is except the codes and the original one I bought is "2.0" and the correct one isnt.

So onto my questions which are.

1) I cant get the layout files to work on the Nexus 7. I have them downloaded into the file manager on the nexus but it just keeps saying "Unsupported File Type" (or similar) when I try and open them.
2) Did I see that for the Speed Six Engine ECU there was the ability to read the Oil Temp ? (And Pressure??) that would be so useful as the cerbera doesnt have the gauge. Any plans for that being added?

Its such a brilliant cheap app that provides really useful information (not least confirming my temp gauge is 15-20degrees c out!)

Thanks
David

Not possible to read Oil temp and pressure from the ecu on the AJP V8 as there are no sensors to do this.

Manual Gauge only I'm afraid!

I heard that as well, but I was hopeful on a speed six it could be read off the ecu I thought I saw that somewhere.

I managed the fix on the layout after downloading the Astro file manager. I am new to the android stuff.

Cheers

Hi Dave

Glad you got sorted, apologies for not chiming in earlier, I'm a bit swamped these days.

Oil pressure can be read via the ecu and displayed on the app for speed six cars.

However I've never released a version with that feature enabled.

There are so many things I'd like to do with the app, I will try to free some time and spend it here.

Best wishes

Hi Aide, thanks for replying.
I wondered if there were any thoughts on the otg cable side of it? I bought the maplin one recommended and tried it today but nothing, no recognition on the app. Am I doing something wrong?
Any Nexus 7 users got any thoughts? Thanks

David

I am running fine with a Nexus 7, but haven't read the whole thread. I just use a miniUSB to serial converter.
