I am looking forward to seeing this and while I agree it is in keeping with TVR ethos, it does seem a shame it was a running one as there are quite a bit less then a thousand of them now. Still as long as the engine gets to a good home smile

Have you considered replacing the fibreglass shell with carbon fibre? Should be a nice weight saving.

Replacing the whole tub would be far to time and money consuming even if a set of moulds where available but boot bonnet possibly door skins is doable but time will tell plus i feel it dosent want to get to much lighter .

I look forward to watching your build, the quality of work on the Chimp was great to see so please keep the updates coming.
Having said that it baffles me why you would want to tear the working heart out of what is a completely unique car and IMHO lose that unique-ness.
I'm not against LS conversions, if I keep my Cerb long enough for AJP parts/blocks to run dry it might have to be done in the future to keep it on the road, I get that AJP8 rebuilds are costly,
but I don't get why someone would want to buy a Cerb to take a healthy & rare engine to replace it with a common one.
So why did you choose a Cerb to do this to, I guess its just the body shape?
Good luck with the project, just please don't turn it into another Carisma Cerb, mind you, at least they kept the AJP lump didn't they wink

Probably get shot down by LS lovers.... But what a sad end or demise of a peice of British motoring history.

If the engine needs changing and the chassis needs all these mods why not just by any old space/ladder frame kit car, cobra or ultima for example.
Its a car for goodness sake! theres lots of them out there, its not like its the only one left.

The engine is in perfect condition (30k miles + runs sweet) - were doing this for the fun of it (oh and 600BHP+)
They aren't Chimps! There are only ~500 left iirc..

Sure it will be an engineering feat however, and every one that is bastardised adds value to mine!

Do what you like to it - it is your own car after all.

Just don't try and tell everyone that the wanton destruction of one of the remaining 500 or so Cerberas is an "improvement".

Sad demise of a future classic. Of course it is your car and you could use it as an anchor if you wished too, the main thing that makes a Cerbera or any TVR is its heart, its engine, and without it its just a tubular chassis with a big engine. I admire your engineering skills but am sad to see another car bastardised.

A completely British designed and built super car, using a flat plane crank.

You can probably count the number of manufacturers outside the likes of ilmour who have produced flat plane crank units on one hand. Its easy to discount the uniqueness of these vehicles.

Sadly one more of these rare beasts that will be skinned and have its coat hung over another animal.

Over here, Moritz Racing has engineered a supercharger conversion for the Cerb many moons ago - which frankly sounds much more like the way forward than tearing its heart out - for what exactly? A supercharged AJP will throw more power at the car than it can really handle if you're so inclined...

John - looking forward to watching the development and workmanship that will go into this and hope this topic doesn't perpetuate the should he shouldn't he argument. Your car, your money your choice in my book. That said I get the preserve and protect argument.

May I suggest a parallel thread on the merits of doing it and keep this thread for the project?

Whats the car going to be used for ? straight line or track .

Will you be a bit disappointed with the Chimaera performance once this bad boy is up and running .cool

Don`t know why you did not go LS in the Chim .
