Johns cerbera rebuild and upgrade
Discussion
no not started yet had to equip a new workshop which involved knocking walls down etc. but took the car to the snetterton track day saturday got some good footage so buyers of the engine etc. can see it performs well, i will be starting slowly this very week got a maroon chim to finish as well that will then be up for sale, funds for the cerb.

Did you find the AJP underpowered? john
Don't forget driver knowledge of the car, first time he had driven it. How far was he pushing an engine he wanted to sell?
An AJP Is a faster engine than an RV8, the torque curve is so much wider and the top end so much higher, a 4.7 AJP will be pushing 475 BHP with 420+ torques, an RV8 of 5.5 litres does not match that.

In John's defence I think he was simply enjoying himself, and was on road tyres. Good to see him there in the Cerb, giving us Chim owners a chance to be dominant for once.....
Indeed. He was on the straights definitely giving it 'beans' - I also drove it several times and I would say (given my previous Cerb ownership) that it is on par with most 4.2's - TVR marketing say 360BHP but in reality I suspect they are mostly in the 330-340BHP mark, and as Alex says most of the Chim's were all 'special' - I had a race down the back straight with him and pull past relatively easily (and he confirmed he was pushing hard 6-7k RPM) - I think key difference is that I am kicking out probably 80+ more lbs of torque.
That, and the 150-200 kg of weight difference I think... making your average 350 bhp Cerb (both 4.2 and un-remapped 4.5 with standard induction) about equal with a 300-320 Chim in terms of power/weight.
Actually on track there's often little to separate the 250-275 hp non-4.0 Chims/Griffs and Speed 6'es with a nominal extra 100 bhp because they tend to be in the same gear accelerating out of bends and the stragiht that follows isn't long enough to get above the 5.5-6K rpm range where the RV8s need an upshift and the power curve of the S6'es keeps on building towards their 7,200 or so maximum. Can't remember being seriously outgunned back when my car was making only 260 or 275 hp, save for 120+ on the Autobahn where the newer cars will start to head for the horizon pretty sharpish.
