The "bonding period" as it has been suggested to me has certainly begun!

Further to the flat spot issue in my recent other thread, now the little b@st@rd cuts out after aprox 15 seconds. Cranks and starts fine each time, but then "click" from the immobilizer and engine dies, regardless of revs. When I reset the immobilizer on the key fob, instead of the usual "beep...beeeeeep" I get "beep.................beeeeeeeep" Car starts on the button, and will run for roughly 15 seconds again.

I've tried searching on here for related faults, are the internal relays in the immobilizer the suspected culprit?

It could well be, have you been near the silver key at all?

If it is the relays I am afraid it is a new Immobiliser best give Dave a call if that is the case.

Hmm.....The silver key....

Ever since I bought the car in December, the starting sequence for me has been:

1) Remote blipper to unlock doors
2) silver key into little barrel by the ash tray - turn 1/4 turn
3) button on blipper again if immobilizer has timed out - then ignition is live and I get the constant beep
4) Start car on black column button

I am aware that the barrel can play up, but I thought you would need to use the key each time. From memory - as I'm not near the car at the mo, there is no provision to remove the silver key once in the 'on' position.

Even if this is the wrong sequence, I don't think this is the culprit, as when the engine cuts out after roughly 15 seconds, the battery light stays illuminated on the speedo.

Might not be the silver key but would not rule it out only takes a second for it to unleash it's fury hehe

In reality, sounds like the immob packing in, nothing you can do with them as it is filled with potting compound.

Might be worth checking all the connections are tight home first if no joy looks like it will be on to a specialist like Dave @ HF

Most owners leave the silver key in - untouched.

Even looking at it is not allowed. Just a short glance can cause heartache! smile

The 15 seconds is typical of the immobiliser losing its 12v feed i.e the 12v feed it gets when the ignition is on.

When you switch the ignition off - the immobiliser resets in about that time.

Might be just a simple wiring issue.

Thanks all for your suggestions.

I unplugged the immobilizer, and left the battery on the optimate over night.

I've followed the advice re: the silver key.

Couldn't fire the car up at 11pm last night, but appears that immobilizer is funtioning properly now.

I was only getting 12.7v off the battery when the engine ran for the 15 or so seconds, so I think it was probably a low voltage issue, and need to investigate the alternator further.

Will fire the car up this afternoon to check that all is good.

Thanks Scotty D

Issue was still present when I fired car up this eve, so spoke to Dave as you suggested.

Certainly an immobilizer problem, as car now runs fine having been talked through the 'immobilizer bypass'

Battery making 13.8v with engine running, so it is taking a charge from altenator too.

Glad you have found where the issue is.

Just an update on my immobilizer issue.

Had Dave from HF Solutions replace the old unit for new. Polite and efficient service, will defo give the thumbs up! Thought I'd get this sorted prior to my body-off, which began over the easter weekend smile
