AJP vs Speed 6
Discussion
Hi all,
Currently drive a 4.0 chimaera and looking to maybe change to a cerbera next winter,
Just wanted to ask the people who would know the pros and cons of the 6 and 8 cylinder models.
I understand everyone will have a different preference ,just wanted to know the main differences
So I could make a decision what would suit me!
Thanks in advance
Nobby

There's an AJP8 vs SpeedSix thread started every other month, so you should find plenty if you google.

I didn't have any preference. When I was looking to buy it just transpired that the 4.5s I tried sounded in better fettle
BUT
in the end there is nothing more ego-boosting than meeting someone who admires the car and asks the questions "Is it a 6 or an 8 ?", "Is it a 4.2 or a 4.5 ?" and all you have to do is stand there with that Clarkson look of smugness and answer "Well, what do you think ?"
(Although my willie turns to playdough when an educated inquisitor asks "4.7 ?". )

As others have said, lots of threads on this subject and down to personal preferences in the end - they are all good!
Like most, I started looking for a 4.5 V8, but all the V8's I found were either modified way beyond what I wanted (meaning yes they were quick, but typically too noisy at motorway speeds and too hard suspension for everyday use) or were tatty inside, or had a rusty chassis, or all of the above. The S6's though were typically less modified and far better condition overall.
In the end I bought an S6, and yes had to spend far more on it to get it right than I expected (another thread) but condition-wise it is probably better now than when made. Performance wise with the rebuilt engine (Power) it is definitely a really quick car when pushed and sounds good too. When cruising it is also refined and civilised enough for me as well.
