The speed six is smoother & revs more freely but its in ever other modern TVR...the AJP was only available in the Cerbera ...so do the Cerbera proud OP & buy the V8!
And of course the reason we all bought a Cerbera is because we wanted a smoother engine.... ....
actually I wanted a fast, sexy, affordable drivers machine that has character. I've got that in oodles with the 4.5 V8.

Unless your driving skills dictate otherwise (&most people THINK it does) you realistically not going to be able to use any performance difference between the cars. All are stupidly qquickIf price isnt an issue then drive both.
Spot on,You would be very lucky in normal road conditions to notice any performance differences between the 4.0L, 4.2L or the 4.5L.

Isn't the only real SpeedSix AJP8 4.5 adversary the FFF S6? (and doesn't that cost twice as much as a used 4.5?)
I have to disagree with this, a STR8SIX 4.3, and yes there are differences to the Power 4.3, is an easy match for a standard 4.5 AJP if you are talking raw performance, if you are also talking about smoothness it is better.I would still have the AJP however.
I did some side by side comparisons between a Tuscan with a 4.3 from Str8Six and my 4.7 AJP Cerbera, till around 110mph the Tuscan was slightly quicker, a few 10ths between 40 and 110, 110 to 130 then the AJP was significantly quicker, nearly a second. All measured at Snetterton using a VBox.

Upgrading from a Chimp, best go for a speed 6 as an AJP maybe to fast for you.........
Not the case at all, my red rose Tuscan sp6 was a faster car than my ajp cerbera!m4tti said:

Its being lapped by an 8 cylinder car
Not a tvr eight cylinder car. You should've gone to specsavers FWIW I loved the speed 6 engine in my Tusc. The power was amazing, I am busy trying to understand why my 4.0 speed 6 could get close to 400bhp yet my 3.5 Lotus can only manage 300 . (Mind you the Lotus is much better to drive on corners and bumpy roads)

The measurement that gave nearly a second quicker was from 70-130mph not 110 to 130.Will look it up when I get home.
Although not a TVR owner my choice would be a speed six cerb with a 4.3 conversion. If this can be done for the price of a V8 Cerb without a conversion it is a billy bargain.

Indeed, not an 8 cyl TVR, but 8 cylinders neverthless.

Could be a number of things.. head flow. The Toyota being twin cams per a head but narrower heads with smaller intake valves, presumably the 2GR-FE isnt running ITB's and tubular exhaust manifolds, likely less crank case pressure from the drysump system, Speed six revs higher as well.FWIW I loved the speed 6 engine in my Tusc. ...there is nothing more ego-boosting than meeting someone who admires the car and asks the questions "Is it a 6 or an 8 ?", "Is it a 4.2 or a 4.5 ?"...
Some years ago I was queuing for a ferry in Dunkerque when a Cerbera pulled up beside me. Deciding to impress the driver with my superior TVR knowledge, I asked him if it was a 4.2 or a 4.5."Neither" came the reply. It was Steve Heath in his LS powered car...
