Got a blown gasket , I'm a mechanic anyway so I'm not worried at all. But has any one got any
Advice or knowledge or potential problems before I start ?
Evening DanAdvice or knowledge or potential problems before I start ?
Have been having a look at your cerb, is it this with the blown gasket?
Do you have pictures and or invoices for the damage and repairs that made it a Cat D ?
Also how little history does it have ?
I'm not to far away , just up by bluewater
Thanks
Dave
Hi Dave ,
I decided to keep it in the end , sadly the head gasket went on Monday , it still runs and drives but it's very steamy on bank 1
Someone went down the side of it which with the hire car costs was enough to write it off .
But never bothered me it an old car now anyway ands probably been repaired over the years anyway , so I'm just going to repair the engine and keep it coz it's mint.

Engine out job to make it easy, the problem is the clearance at the front to get they front cover off, the chassis gets in the way, other than that it is not a problem.
yep engine has to come out, while its out I would change all the hoses to silicon check the water pipes and if they are rusty change them to stainless, clean up the chassis, might even be with looking at the clutch, then that will be all sorted for a few yearsEh?
I just pulled the engine & ‘box out as one, not sure what you mean there.
It’s much easier to get them out together as you leave the exhaust manifolds on & they are a right pain to get off with the engine in.
It’s not too hard to get out, it’s just a long way back so the crane takes the paint of the front of the car where you forgot to put any protection as the engine lurches back towards you, not that I did that
On my 4.5 I found it was much easier if I took the fuel rail & the air box mounts off the back of the engine. I spent ages trying to squeeze the engine in with them on.
