What have you done to your car today......
Discussion
Found time to strip the rack, no wonder it lasted less than 600miles since the last refurb (I use the term lightly)
Area within the oval has been 'cleaned up ' at some time !
Closer inspection you can see some sort of pitting ?
A spiral groove, probably done whilst removing or replacing the circlip, can easily be felt with a finger tip never mind a nail!
Off to Kiley & Clinton tomorrow, lets hope they can do a better job.

OK - didn't do it all today - in fact started last year, but almost ready to put the body back on the chassis. Chassis is zinc plasma sprayed followed by a good layer of epoxy mastic followed by top coat. Anyway, anybody got any good advise when placing the body back on? Not sure whether I should place it at an angle or if it will go down level.
Well put the battery back, crank her over, then started her up and let the engine warm up after a few month of not being run.
all good... went back to put everything back together in the engine bay then found that the driver side washer assembly was unmounted (id forgotten about it) and it was resting on the exhaust... and now looks like this:
anyone know what exactly Ive managed to melt and what the part numbers are?
Next job was to wash the car but now need to find what I need to replace...

Highly unlikely the body can drop back on level. The bottom of the footwell area of the tub is narrower than the top engine bay chassis rails.djstevec said:

Ah yes, the great 'engine in/engine out' debate. You'll find plenty of people on here who say engine out, but if you asked the garages/Indys who do it for a living they mostly suggest the engine in way. I did engine out for body removal, and engine in (as you can see) for the body on process. In my opinion engine in is the was to go (it makes propshaft connection much simpler for example!), but be aware that you need the engine to be loose and repositionable (support on a trolley jack and be ready to shift it from side to side) during the process.
No crowbar action needed, but you need whatever lifting/lowering/tilting method you choose to be nice and controllable. Once I'd got the lower body rotated past the chassis rails and then level there were a few odd creaking noises as the outriggers found their way 'home', but by then you're 95% done!
Once the body is back on you need to shift the engine all the way to the passenger side, fit the drivers exhaust manifold, then shunt it all the to the other side, fit the other manifold, then centre and fix the engine.
HTH.

Thanks Olly,
Unfortunately the engine is blocked in behind the body so I need to get the chassis and body together again before putting the engine back in. I was thinking about the exhaust bolts since they were a bit tight to get out. All in all I'm delighted with the progress that I've made so far but also amazed at just how much I've spent - I keep thinking that I'm best to do all those jobs while it is easy to access. It is also taking a lot longer than I'd hoped, lots of small jobs that are fiddly and take longer than expected. Any advise is appreciated.
Cheers
