I need the following parts (to start with) and live in Essex. Where could you advise me to buy the following for a 2000my 4.5 Cerbera:-

Engine oil and filter
Gearbox oil (Thought I may as well change it as part of the 24k service)
Diff Oil (Thought I may as we'll change it as part of the 24k service)
Fuel filter
Upper steering universal joint
Complete set of coolant hoses including metal ones if possible (as the metal ones are quite rusty and the rubber ones are really knackered)
Air intake hoses (purple ones). Is the short induction option my only option or can you get replacement purple ones?
Wheel arch stone chip resistance paint (wanted to freshen up the arches)
Handbrake cables (if possible) as I'm fed up with adjusting it pre mot each year for it to slacken off again a few weeks later

If there is anywhere you can suggest, please suggest. Many thanks in advance!!

Gearbox oil (Thought I may as well change it as part of the 24k service) (LOCAL MOTOR FACTOR)
Diff Oil (Thought I may as we'll change it as part of the 24k service) (LOCAL MOTOR FACTOR)
Fuel filter (CLEVOR TREVOR)
Upper steering universal joint (CT AGAIN)
Complete set of coolant hoses including metal ones if possible (as the metal ones are quite rusty and the rubber ones are really knackered) (ACT)
Air intake hoses (purple ones). Is the short induction option my only option or can you get replacement purple ones? (SPEAK TO JULIAN AT KITSANDCLASSICS - I'D SAY GO FOR HIS SHORT ONES (NOT THE RIP OFF COPIES ON EBAY) OR BUY THE SAMCO LONG ONES ON EBAY)
Wheel arch stone chip resistance paint (wanted to freshen up the arches) (HALFORDS)
Handbrake cables (if possible) as I'm fed up with adjusting it pre mot each year for it to slacken off again a few weeks later (CLEVOR TREVOR)

Racetech do a service kit - oil/fuel/air filter & plugs. No idea how it compares against buying separately tho.

I remember seeing the metal pipes for sale somewhere but they were in the region of £150 each.

If you are willing to put a little time in, even what look like goosed pipes can be brought back.

40 grit sand paper a wire wheel and an orbital with 120 on did these over the weekend. They are sitting in primer at the moment till I can get up to finish them off tomorrow night.

Good point, looking at the cost of metal pipes makes it logical to clean up the old ones.may we'll go for a nice blue set of silicone hoses though as well as induction ones.

Comparing prices at the moment and it appears racetrack and clever trevor appear to be the most competitive. Will be doing some phoning around tomorrow.

I bought the oil filter from Bespoke performance in Ware Herts I'm sure they can the other service items too. Oil from Euro car parts. Most of the other bits I've purchased are from Racetech or Clever Trevor.

Oil from Opie Oils - they even do a discount for PistonHeads members.
Make sure you use the correct oil for your diff. If you have the non hydratrack diff the TVR specified oil is no longer available, you need Morris Lodexol which is the only suitable replacement. Not sure about the hydratrack, but I am sure someone else will advise.

The oil filter is a bog standard Land Rover one - if you are paying more than about £1.50 you are being ripped off.

I got Millers 75/140 for my Hydratrack diff. There are a few discussion threads knocking about if you want to search for them. Long and short is alot of the guys with TVR race cars have been using it for years without any complications. My thought was "if its good enough for them then it'll probably do me to"

I paid £41 trade cause I have a mate who works in the motor factors. Just to give you an idea of cost.

The morris Lodexol wasnt available in Nothern Ireland.

good luck getting it all sorted.

just found the thread

Been searching out hose kits for my own car and came upon these during the search. If you decide to replace instead of refurbing.

Unless you are buying one of the very nice (Cummins manufactured?) filters supplied by David Brown of V8Filters.co.uk. Sadly David has been seriously ill and the site is currently down, however he is recovering and still supplying customers, and hopes to have the site back up soon.

Depends on the car if they will fit though...didn't on my 4.5, but did on yours!

The bracket allowed for quite a lot of wriggle room on mine, so I had nearly 1cm clearance in the end.

Having seen a few Oil Filter Autopsy threads and the incredible variation in materials and build quality, I think I will chop this one up once I've taken it off and let it drain, and then I'll post photos.

For what it's worth the only filter I definitely won't fit on any car is FRAM.

I use them on my 4.0 litre serp engined Chimaera without issue.

It's tight, but they do fit, the trick is to slide it in at the right angle while turning slightly (not easy when it's full of oil).

Just when you think it wont go in, it levels up on the thread and winds on a treat, I'm on my third one now and have never had any cross threading issues.

The filter is basically Cummins Fleet Guard technology used extensively over in the States on extreme high mileage diesel haulage vehicles that are particularly hard on their oil and need first class filtration to cover demanding extended service periods.

In addition to the significantly superior filtration media there are a number of other advantages to this filter like a better quality bypass valve, it's physical size alone gives better filtration & oil cooling performance.

In my opinion a Cummins Fleet Guard glass media oil filter will knock any paper element filter into a cocked hat.

The guy selling them (Dave Brown) is very honest and knowledgeable, OK so it's twice the price of a paper element filter, but because it filters better and is less prone to clog you could argue it only needs changing every other oil change.

I still change mine every 3000 miles & use Millers CSS 20w60 semi-synth, although I just scored 10 litres of Millers CFS 15w60 fully synth off EBay for £70.00 delivered, so I may run 6000 mls to the next service this time.

Anyway just to be 100% clear, the "V8F 8990" filter definitely fits my serp Chimaera, & well worth the £18.75 in my opinion.

Very interesting! If they really do have better internals then that sounds worthwhile.

The expensive TVR Specialist one and the 99p eBay special that I cut up were absolutely identical despite one costing around 15 times the price of the other.
