Evening all

I finally have some Spiders. I have the 'rear' rears and the 'front' fronts if that makes sense rather than 4 fronts. I am needing to order some tyres as the wheels are bare and wondered what tyre sizes people prefer. Do some people put 245's on the back rather than 255's to avoid scrubbing etc etc?

Also, can anyone tell me anything about fitting lock stops. Are there any diagrams around or parts needed. From what i have read and seen it looks like a plastic washer?

Thanks for any advice

I run 255/35 R18 on the rears with no rubbing at all.
not even with the suspension fully inward.

you can find the lock stops on clevor trevor under 'front suspension and steering'
they look like this:

Hate to say it, but for the Cerb you need all 'fronts'. The 'rear' Spiders are the wrong offset and stand a very good chance of rubbing on the bodywork regardless of what size tyre you put on them. Some cars can get away with it but most can't.

Details of the lock stop are in the Equivalent Part Numbers thread.

Is the offset problem because they are too far inward, or stick out of the arch too far?

For the fronts, some people seem to go for 225/35 and other 225/40 and im in a real dilema on what to go for. The car they came off was fine with them on, so i will have to cross my fingers and hope. Hey ho if they dont fit ill have to buy 2 new fronts. Ive got these past the wife so whats another 2 :-)

Oh yeah???..you've changed your tune!!! confused ....That's not what you told me when I bought a set of fronts & rears from you 3½ years ago!! How did the conversation go??....are they all fronts mate??....No, fronts & rears. Any probs with the rears rubbing?....No, I've hade these on my own Cerbera and they dont rub.....they'll be OK. whistle

Thankfully mine dont rub with the 245/35's that are fitted.

I have the Rears on mine with the wider offset. They do rub the arches but only in extreme circumstances. I have Gaz Golds I don't run them too hard either also have adjusted the height accordingly to get the right balance.

Thanks for the replies. What front size tyres do you run with the 245/35 rears?

Cerbster.....225/35's

otp....Tuscan Spider offset is 42mm front & 33mm back. Cerbera is (officialy) 42mm all round, however, I have 33's on the back of my Cerb and have no clearance issues. Lock stops are required with 18" wheels. I fitted a set off stops a few years ago and after receiving them, I wish I'd made them myself...£15 + P&P for 2 poxy nylon washers with a slot cut in them.....robbing barstewards!!! Just got to B&Q and get a couple of washers that are used for fitting a ballcock to a sh*thouse cistern.

Yeah.. you know what? I was absolutely right.

I had them on my Cerbera for a couple of years and as I told you at the time the rears didn't rub on my car! I also very clearly warned you of the possibility of them rubbing based on other peoples experience and you decided to go ahead and purchase them any way despite my warning. So please don't accuse me of changing my tune or telling you anything otherwise.

We got new spiders directly from the TVR factory back in 2002, they supplied four Tuscan fronts. They also supplied those rack stops shown there. I fitted them when fitting the wheels, but then the tuning circle made it virtually un-driveable, it was almost impossible to get into petrol stations. So I took them off & check for any sign of rubbing, there was non so I left it like that & it was fine.

Having not driven it for quite a few years I'd forgotten how bad the tuning circle still was when I got it back on the road so actually measured the clearance from the rims to the wish bones on full lock, it was twice as much on one side as the other (something like 15mm vs 30mm). As recall the rack already has spacers just like the one pictured there but with out the cut out part, I think mine may have got too many of them to begin with! I'm going try removing some soon to try to make it even.

Also a point to note is that on the 4.5s with the separate bells & rotas the alloy centre bell section is apparently quite a bit thicker than the steel part of a normal brake disc, so that could give some slight extra clearance between the inner rim & whish bone.

I think most people find they do need the extra rack stops, but it's a TVR so nothing's a given!

This 'discussion' rears its ugly head so frequently it's amazing.

I have always worn 18 x 8.5J Spiders with Front e42, Rear e33 offsets.
Always with 225/35 x 18, 255/35 x 18 fittings and NO lockstops.

I originally had 'rubbing' on hard left-handers. It turned out to be a badly fitted silencer box. Re-fit and NO problems.

I believe that there may have been inconsistency with filling the body moulds at the factory which would have created the rubbing issues found on some Cerbs.

Unfortunately this means, as usual, it's a case of suck it and see.

What year is your Cerb ?

The factory supplied me with 4 x front spiders back in c2001 when my 18 incl RL7's cracked. I believe it is rare to see a cerb on rear off set spiders. I suspect the factory may have fitted rears on the rear when front supplies were down...? But hey thats just an opinion not a fact.
As far as lock stops are concerned - again with the variations of cerb builds you sometimes (going by the three cerbs I have had) need none, sometimes just a pair, sometimes two each side etc...
