Got a misfire above 3k rpm, and on looking through the history of the car it seems it hasn't had the coil packs replaced ('96 4.2 35k).
Where's the best place to get good replacements and how much? ie not cheap copies
Cheers

Cheers Steve,
Just seen this but I've ordered them from Euro car parts. Only £82 delivered so not too bad, and Racetech have got an offer on for premium leads for £50, so again pretty reasonable.
Thanks for the offer.
I'll let you know if it cures the fault.

Did you check the small connector on each coil pack to ensure one of the signal wires is not loose? This was how I cured mine.

Just been to a local car meet and gave her a "spirited" drive home and not a sign of a misfire. I did notice the temp never got above 80 degrees and the engine was sweet as a nut!
Also when the sun is out and the outside temperature is up, the car will cut out as if the fuel is vapourising on tickover, on a hot engine.

Anyone had any experience of this?

Yep, it turned out to be plug leads breaking down due to heat, a common issue.

Mine used to miss on days in the high 20s but since fitting new leads, coils and also fixing the short on one of the control wires it has been sorted. While I was in there I also swapped the fuel regulator over to a new one.

Cheers

Maybe, I had a similar problem with restarting, not stalling. It seemed to me to be vapourisation, so I put the fuel hose that travels in the 'v' in heat sleeve and never had the problem again. I also some time later on got the aircon regassed and working as I have a fuel cooler; just to help reduce fuel temps further.

Maybe try a slight turn of the throttle stop screw to start with? I think you have removed the cats recently so this may be affecting the exhaust flow slightly perhaps?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have ordered the coil packs and leads and will change them out in due course. It really can't be much as last night she was "awesome"!

Just a quickie for Supateg...was the fuel cooler an after market upgrade and I take it its mounted at the front of the car in the cold air flow? Also I'm presuming it fits between the fuel pump and fuel rail?

The fuel cooler is standard fitment, it lives on the rail just in front of the engine. Silver cylinder with fuel lines radially into each end and air con refrigerant lines axially at each end. If your car was originally fitted with air con then you will have one.

Got me thinking now? I dont have AC but can get some high temp days down here. I wonder if an inline finned fuel cooler would help matters. Has anyone fitted an aftermarket simple set up?
