Hi, I have the later style rear lights on my Cerbera and would like to replace the red fog light cover with a white one.

I understand how to remove the plexiglass cover (if needed), however I wonder how the inside lens covers come off ? Are they bonded, screwed, etc... ?
Also, where can the lens itself be found (other than buying a complete near side cluster second hand) ? Searches with the usual suppliers have drawn a blank.

Thanks

I think what you're trying to ask is how the Fiesta light unit is fitted to the body.

I had to remove one and it was a real pain. It was screwed (crudely) in about 3 places through the fibreglass flange directly into the plastic housing of the lens. It was also bonded in with a load of randomly placed sikaflex. It took ages but in the end a bit of brute force did the job. My lens was already busted so I wasn't too fussed about causing it further damage.

If they are the Landrover/military type then the bulb unit and holder unscrews from he lens assembly. You should be able to see this from inside the boot. You then need to take the clear outside cover off to get at the lens assembly.

Here is the light unit from mine, this bit sits on the outside and the bulb holder screws onto it from inside the boot.

The way to make it work is to use a red bulb the same way as we use yellow bulbs in the clear front indicators.

Incidentally if anyone finds an LED bulb that works properly in this fitting i would like to know as i have tried several without finding one that is both bright enough and has sufficiently wide angle beam.

Thanks GT6k, this looks like what I have. I can unscrew the fitting from the back to get to the bulb, is the light unit itself glued/sealed/bonded at all, or just held in place by the screw fitting at the back clamping the lot together.

I'm exporting the car to Europe and need to switch reverse/fog to be on the correct side of the car, I'll either go white both sides with a red bulb if it works, or swap them. I'd prefer not to have to remove/reseal both covers but will do it I have to.

Are you suggesting red bulbs don't work (aside from GT6k's comments on LED ones) ?

I believe in the UK the fog light has to have a red lense.

Not sure of the status elsewhere.

I have a red LED bulb and mine seems OK.

Getting the lenses off is a faff, if your lenses are bonded in that's another faff.

Be VERY careful when cutting the sealant!

Would fishing or thin metal wire work ? More gentle than a sharp knife.

The light holders are bonded and have a self tapper, you will have to cut the sealant around the clear cover and rebond.
Getting the light units out can be hard, luckily the back end I got mine from was off the car, I had to push very hard with my foot to break the bonding agent, sims flex or similar, but in the boot you will have to get some kind of lever and lever it evenly over the screw thread, or it distorts.

Bonding the lenses I found a two stage affair, bond the in place first then fill bonding agent in next day, clean excess sikaflex off while damp with a sponge soaked in thinners, I actually got it quite nice like this.

I cant exactly remember but I thing on mine the light unit was lightly bonded in and there may have been a self tapper.

I didn't have any difficulty getting the outer cover off but the black edging did flake off so i masked it and then resprayed the edge with black paint before bonding on with black sealant. I think I had to go back and do a second sealant layer to finish it as Brummie says.

It hadn't occurred to me that the light itself might have to be red.

Thanks for the extra information everyone. Checked legal requirements in France and as long as the fog light emits red light it's ok, so a clear lens with red bulb should be ok.

I will double check with the equivalent of our MOT inspectors before doing anything. Worst case, I'll have to do both sides and swap red/white.

Sounds like a bit of a faff, but then again... it's a TVR.

Mine has a red LED Fog bulb, can't remember where I saw the info about the red lens but it may have bee nonsense!

MOT guide here.

http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_130.htm

It may have been this, the bulbs (LED) aren't filament so don't conform to the lamps requirements. But then there is no specs for LEDs......

Hey chaps I plan to make an LED upgrade of the existing 4 pod military lights my next task.

See these Ive found on that auction place wink

6 RDX LUX LED REAR NAS Lights Upgrade kit Resistors Land Rover 90/110 Defender

Rather than have to rip out the pod its a case of remove the bulbs and screw in the new ones then rewire (a lesser of the 2 evils).

Forgive me if I'm wrong (I'm sure someone will be along to put it right)

Those NAS lights are the same as the Wipac ones at 95mm diameter.

The Lucas military lights are approx 85mm diameter.(I think)

So there is a bit of carving to do to make fit?

Bump ordering these in various colours for my 4 pods wink

All internal, number plate and side repeaters have been changed to the appropriate fitting of the equivalent bulb type. So just this to do.
