I laughed, but I wish I hadn't. If the definition of a breakdown is failing to complete a journey you've started because of a problem with the car, then my Cerb is the most reliable car I've ever owned, because I've completed every journey.

That is a fairly narrow definition, I do realise that.

Don't forget to add to the "trips between breakdowns" counter on your desk.
Those numbers must be piling up.

Perfect definition of a breakdown IMO.. Anything else is just a niggle!

In 3 Tvr's I have never been stranded at the road side in 8 years, 2 massive journeys through 6 country's and they have got me back home. Niggles yes a few but nothing of great issue.

3 breakdowns in 5 years in 3 different tvr's. Ecu shorted on the battery in my 1st chimaera, that led to another breakdown shortly after as the ecu was the wrong on. The fuel pump relay packed up on my Tuscan the other month. For the miles I have done in them I would say they are very reliable

Since I always carry spare relays (and many other small parts such as crank position sensor and lambda sensor) I would not have counted that as a breakdown.

Only 1 breakdown in 10 years where i haven`t been able to fix it with the help of friends, gaffer tape,zip-ties,sticky-back plastic and glue and get home under my own steam....a broken driveshaft!

I ran out of fuel once, while embarrassing being on the side of the road waiting for a can petrol to appear, I'm not sure it counts as a break down. And that is it in all my ownership.

Starter motor and fuel pump for me in four years.

But the pump could be any car as it was a Bosch one that is fitted to millions of cars.

Two in 5 years.

gearbox destroyed on a track day (does this count?)

Pipe to clutch slave burst.

Quite a reliable old girl really for a 16year old car.

"Two" in 7 years!!

The first was a high speed puncture driving - squeaky bum time on a run. I'm not sure if that really counts!!

The second was the battery running out of electricity (big fuse had blown on a track day) in the slow lane of the contraflow of the M1 in the dark. Not very pleasant!!

Not bad in all that time, although the engine is now in a HUGE pile of bits as it's apart for a proper freshen up. frown

More reliable than many "normal" cars....

Cheers
