Has anybody managed to open one up before? I might have a go because my temp needle has slipped around so when the car is cold it reads about 105C and when it's hot it reads 80PSI, strange but true... Any pointers would be most welcome.

I believe you can gently lever the bezel to get the glass off.

Be very carefull as the temp capillary tube is fragile to say the least.

Refurbishment can be done by sending the whole thing off to Speedy Cables who are not normally speedy.

I had a gauge that did that, and Speedy did repair it. However it slipped again within a few weeks, I presume some part of the mechanism had worn out. In the end I fitted another gauge, which Speedy also repaired because the capillary was broken.

Thanks for the info chaps, most helpful. I realy want to fix it myself as I'm working to a budget and on the face of it seems a relatively simple fix. Having said that I know it will be fragile and the risk of it going tits up is quite high.

Job done!!! Like you said it is possible to open the bezel by carefully prising the metal back. Remove glass. Then undo the 6 screws holding the mech. Slide it all out. To fix I just needed to bend a brass actuator rod that had come away from the needle spindle arm thingy. I will do a video and put it on YouTube if anybody wants to see inside and how to fix.

Thank you
