Hi all

Hope you can help me out.

My car has just started rattling, sounds like something is slightly loose and is vibrating/rattling when driving, but I cannot find it. Sounds like it is coming from the back, but I cant be sure as it only does it when driving, not when Idling...!

I had a quick crawl under and check that nothing obvious was loose, but as it was all hot it was a bit tricky.

Anything obvious that I can look for? Is this a common thing that someone will immediately know the answer to? If not, any of your clever chaps have a ramp in the Bucks area I could maybe use to poke around (save me paying for a garage to use one).

Thanks in advance.

Had an annoying rattle/squeak on the tuscan would only do it whilst moving. Checked everything I could and all seemed in order but it persisted.

Turned out to be dry suspension bushes, greased up and off I went.

Had mat smith scratching his head for an hour or so.

I will take a look later, but its just had a suspension overhaul (new wishbones etc) at Sr8six so I doubt they will have omitted any grease if it was needed. That was also a few months ago and it has just started, so Im not convinced.....Will defo check though - thanks.

I would like to bet one of my finest English pounds its the exhaust touching the chassis somewhere. Makes contact on vibration. Had it a couple of times myself, bloody annoying.

Yes I would say Mr FUBAR is right, I had a bit of trouble with mine like that. The exhausts can foul the chassis toward the rear of the chassis near the diff. Depending on how your hangers have been fabricated you may be able to lower the pipe a few MM/CM.

Also check the little link brackets that link the two main pipes of the exhaust

The welds on them can crack and they will look fine but when the car is running the pipes can move enough for the bracket to rattle

This can be fixed with a weld

Check the ARB mounting bracket (if you've got an ARB that's under the car) as it can crack and move slightly when driving

I added a diagram to the Equivalent Parts thread years ago with details of how to make a stronger one from 3mm steel plate

Also the standard back box is known to have some of the internal baffles come loose and rattle within the back box

This is not fixable (but if you can live with the rattle you can drive on)

They're just a few extra things to check
