Any V8 Engines Going?
Discussion
Unless you want a light weight, high revving, fuel efficient, TVR engine
OP have you tried talking to Andy? http://apmtvrservicing.co.uk/index.php?option=com_...

Interloper with a Griff here (you can guess what I'm thinking about!). Anyone know where I might find an AJP V8 (4.2 or 4.5) for sale??
There was a 4.2 from a 98 on eBay a few weeks back. It was from everyone's fave breaker, but that if you were buying an engine only I doubt the usual concerns would apply. IIRC it came with the history on the car....Worth checking there.
Here is one... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TVR-CERBERA-AJP-ENGINE-4...
Peter, I'm still sitting on the fence! Thanks for the long chat on the phone BTW. What's attracting me to the AJP is not the amount of power but the manner of the delivery. I'm researching both options - it's a big wedge of cash either way and I want to be sure I get the car I want coming out at the other end. After all, the Griff is the car TVR originally intended the AJP for, though I believe the story goes that PW decided in the end that the wheelbase was too short for that much power in the hands of the average driver - hence the lwb Cerbera which is harder to spin (!)
I apologise for teaching my Cerbera-driving friends to suck eggs - for any non AJP drivers dropping in here is a bit of techie stuff which illustrates why TVR wanted to move from RV8 (cross-plane crank) to AJP (flat plane crank):

Hence the attraction!

James, everyone's fave breaker - Douglas Valley?
Not this time, here we mean TVR Glenhttp://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/dealer/6123...
I wish you luck and look forward to reading about your progress. If I had the funds I would want to put an AJP8 in an M12, after taking out that big heavy truck engine.

here you go Pete, a worthwhile project, brilliant drive, awesome power and much much more power than a rv8 will give you.
my 4.2 finished with 410bhp after lots of tweaks and mods, and fancy equal length manifolds.

Clive, many thanks for the link to your thread. I remember seeing your car at the Griff Growl a few years back and being very impressed - I think the idea has been in the back of my mind ever since then. I also dug out the copy of Sprint with your article in it and re-read that last weekend - more inspiration!
That having been said, I confess I'm still on the fence as I still have a fondness for the old Rover (it has the best noise!) and am interested to find out just what a properly sorted big capacity example can do. Peter, I'm hoping to drop into Joolz' place on Friday, so perhaps I could take a peek at yours?
