I've got it started eventually.

I'm really struggling with the starter solenoid though - it doesn't want to engage the starter gear so the motor just spins most of the time. I must have disturbed something whilst farting about with those lambda leads.

I'd leave it for a while and spend time elsewhere. At the start of February, wander down to the garage with the realistic intention of getting to a big TVR meeting with all the family, and a subsequent Summer of trips out in good weather.
Auto car got it right when they said " When it ran properly, it was the most exciting car on earth. When it didn't (which was more than occasionally) I wanted to burn it." I've been tempted to drive mine off a cliff on more than one occasion. Hang in there.

You're dead right laugh

I've just driven it though. It's freezing cold, wet and trying to snow but am happy to report that I've had WOT in 4th and 5th with no misfiring or juddering. That's great.

It's now idling a bit fast at around 1250rpm according to the tachometer so I'll need to look in to that, and whilst down there I need to see if I've dislodged a plug slightly from the starter motor.

Glad to see your getting there, if you do need to replace the solenoid its not too bad a job and relatively cheap to boot!

Both good to know...

The insurance and VED are both due for renewal next weekend so I think I'll SORN it for a couple of months. In the new tax year I'll order the new exhaust, and in the mean time I can tinker with smaller things.

I haven't renewed the insurance so took it out yesterday on the last day of cover before putting it away - and after slowing down on overrun, turning on to my driveway and applying a bit of welly at low RPM in 1st, it bogged, slobbered and stuttered again. The HT leads made a big improvement to the drive but apparently they weren't the underlying issue.

I'll sort the starter motor solenoid in the mean time, then ask Joolz nicely if he'll take a look in the new tax year.

It's almost certainly multiple issues causing these problems, but none are likely to be particularly expensive to fix, merely awkward to diagnose. I realise things are not easy in Aberdeen these days, but I really hope you can find the time to get to the bottom of this, so you can properly enjoy the car once it gets warmer.

So the car got a new fuel hose on Friday and did a good 80 miles or so running absolutely fantastic.

I used it in traffic yesterday and when fully warmed up I declutched to come to a halt and it conked out. It refused to start again so I called American Airlines (apparently The AA is not the first hit when you Google "AA"). They couldn't help but two guys gave me a push off the road whereupon it fired up again. I used it again today and it cut out half a dozen times or so but I bump started it using the car's momentum and the clutch.

It idles fine, maybe a touch low at 900rpm, but only cuts from over run. If you bring it down to idle with throttle it's fine. You can tell when it's going to do it because it stops popping and banging and just sounds like a generic crossplane V8 slowing down - then you declutch and it just stops.

It dawned on me on the way home, managing downshifts, revs and throttle very carefully that I didn't 'plug' the pressure sensor hose back into the n/s airbox after doing the fuel hose so it's measuring engine bay ambience.

What does the ownership reckon? I'm going to sort that obviously and tweak the idle a smidge higher. Do we think I have another new and elaborate issue, or have I just been a tt leaving that hose dangling by mistake?

could it not be throttle pots causing this issue. I would check what is happening using the mbe diagnostics.

Or Lambda's.

Or damp from being stood.

The throttle pots were good until very recently as were lambdas. I was checking constantly through Jan/Feb trying to chase down the last issues. It's done a around 400 hundred miles over the past fortnight so even though it got lightly rained on whilst parked outside one day, it has been fully heated up and I don't think it's likely to be damp - particularly as it has only manifested itself when hot.

The first day it refused to start again until it had sat for a few minutes - the second day I bump started it again using the clutch and momentum smile

I haven't had a chance to look at it yet but my pickup is getting a new windscreen tomorrow at home (2,500 miles and 9 weeks old - good going to smash a screen already!) so will sort it then. I need to replace the screenwash tubing too. It's been spliced together in several places past the engine and it keeps falling apart so time for new tube!

Lambda 2 thumbup

It ran like a bag of nails on the way home today at low throttle. Push the pedal and it sorted itself out.

I plugged it in and both AFRs are lit up red and Adaptive 2 is on the limit. I cleared the adaptives and it instantly idled properly, until driving it up the driveway plugged in and Lambda 2 lights up red.

I'm pleased actually. It's a relatively cheap fix and it hasn't led me round a wild goose chase!

Looks like your working through the niggles effectively.

Sun was shining yesterday so brought a summer car out of its winter slumber only to find an ABS light, dry injector seals & a hose leak.

I just wanted to say my car is now going like Saturn V.

It was out for another photoshoot again on Saturday night:

Looking forward to getting those back and also getting the Ohlins dampers fitted!

Lambda 2 has logged a fault again. This time it's stuck at just under 2 volts. Has anyone seen a failure before? I'm not quite sure what it means. It runs badly with high adaptive differences at light throttle, idles low but clears up and takes off at wider throttle openings. I don't think it's a genuine overfuel.

My car used to eat Lambda sensors for dinner, luck if they would last more than a couple of months.

I ended getting them turned off on the ECU map.
