Just been out for my first drive in the Cerb for what seems like months.
Really enjoyed it but I really couldnt bear to have it as an every day car this time of the year, certainly not out in the peak district.
I really just pootled around the local b roads. Forgot how great the 330mm brakes are and how in cold conditions there is so little grip! Tried to keep up with an eagerly driven Mini Cooper S but with no front end bite and a rear end that wanted to overtake me I struggled to carry any speed. Even im a straight line these cars are a handful in these conditions. So short shifting was required to keep the beast tamed.
I spotted a black BMW i8 in Baslow. Ooh I want.

Glad you are enjoying it, I did think reading your posts over the past it would be touch and go if you kept it, I know where you are coming from, just takes one drive to feel the love again.

Great to hear that you have rekindled your desire and relationship....

I've not driven mine properly since the TVRCC Cadwell track day last year..... I need to sort out the insurance renewal, wait for the salt to get washed away and go out for a drive to "feel the love again".

Gonna need to feel the love, as it's going in for a 12K service, new silicon hoses, Protech shock rebuild and God knows what else might come up.... Preparing myself for ££££££shock, so gonna need the love to counterbalance the wallet-pain....

I'm sorry to admit that thoughts and desires have started to stray....

My two are now 9yrs and 7yrs, and it's getting a tight squeeze when all four family are in the car together, even with my 7yr old behind me I need to have my driving position coompromised and my daughter still has her legs tight up against the back of the drivers seat....

Work and family commitments have meant that I've been driving the Cerb less and less, and I do wonder whether having bigger back seats might mean a "weekend car" would get more use if we all fitted in more comfortably....
Thoughts have been straying to a gorgeous Italian..... (Masserati GrandTurismo been on my lust list for a while, mate who came to Le Mans with us last year had the GrandCabrio - gorgeous noise, and useable rear seats).

Hang on to them a bit longer boys...spring is round the corner and warm dry roads await for the "Love Affair" to rekindle!
They are such a special car and so difficult to replace.

MikeinSheffield...who does your maintenance as I am thinking of a Protech upgrade?

Cheers

I'm really looking forwards to some dry (not necessarily warm) weather without salt on the roads so I can re-ignite the "love".

I've had the Cerb for over six years now, and had the "wobbles" over whether to sell or not a few times, usually after a period where I've not used it much, or when faced with large bills!!! (Had a few of those.... head gasket went which was an engine out job, lost third gear and needed gearbox work, and the general upgrading and keeping the car as perfect as possible... and about to face another potentially large bill in the next couple of weeks).

A good blast usually solves the thoughts of straying (and there's nothing like a Le Mans trip to truly rekindle the relationship - it must be the Cerbera equivilant of a dirty weekend away with the mistress...)..... So I'm hoping that after the 12K service and shocks refresh and corner weighting she'll feel better than ever!!

With regards to the Protechs, I initially had them fitted and balanced by Jooles in Chesterfield when he had his own workshop soon after buying the Cerb (6 years ago), then had the car maintained by RaceProved in Sheffield by Russ & co (where Jooles also worked for a while) before RP changed hands - the shocks are being taken off by the "new" RaceProved and sent back to the factory for the rebuild.

I haven't driven mine since July now, what with cleaning and painting the chassis and chasing overheating issues for twelve months, which after replacing virtually the entire cooling system, turned out to be failed head gaskets. I'm not really feeling the love at the moment, what with having spent in the region of 7.5k since I bought the car in September 2013 and only managing 1500 miles (250 of which were driving it home) That said, I know when it comes back this time, I'll hopefully get a good summer's use out of her and the love will be rekindled.

I've just bought my first house too, which should be built by June, with an integral garage especially for the old girl. As of June, the car will probably have to go on the backburner for the foreseeable future while I get settled in to the new place, so I hope I can get a good few months out of her when she comes back from the specialist.

Jools is still around in his own workshop and is highly recommended for Pro-Techs.

Boys oh boys. I feel for you when unexpected expenses rear their ugly heads

BUT

I've got two broken legs and it's snowing here and I'm telling you that BlackBeauty loves to be out in it. hehe

MiS, would love to know what your ProTech bill is as I have a set too, one of which is totally shagged, and they need to be serviced.
WD1000 the ProTechs I bought from Joo back in '08 had a three year warranty on them so factor in servicing costs/time before you buy thumbup

I feel the need...

The last 12K that I took to a TVR expert had quoted their price on the web at £750.
The bill came in at £2200 (I think - it all seemed a blur when I woke up in A&E yikes)
(Best o' Luck, mate thumbup)

Hi Paul,

Just collected the Cerb fresh from the 12K service and took for a quick spin (nothing too lairy as minimal grip out there at the moment...) but it feels great on refurbished suspension and corner weighting - felt very stable, solid and planted.

The Protech shock refurb was £168 + VAT, the labour was included in the 12K service and other stuff so not sure about the cost to remove shocks.

The only "unexpected item in bagging area" was a new starter motor... the old one was making a bit of a noise on start up, and the garage fitted it FOC seeing as they'd removed all the fuelling system etc and had easy access to it. I thought that buying a new one might help prevent Sods Law that the old one would go pop a few thou miles later and need the stuff stripping back off just to get at it again...!

Whilst she was up on the ramps I took the opportunity to have a good poke arround in the undercarrage (oo-er missus) and was pleasantly surprised with the condition of the chassis and suspension arms etc. There was a couple of chips in the paint that had developed some surface rust, now treated, painted and waxoiled again.
