Trackday Tyres
Discussion
As I have ruined my nearly new Eagle F1's by letting the car stand on them for too long over the winter, I am now looking for more tyres.
I'm tempted to get some track-day tyres (Nankang NS-2R are looking favourite), but you can't get them in the standard front size, 225/35 R18.
Are there any issues with fitting 225/40 R18 instead, has anyone experience of doing this?

Not a Cerb. I went from 225/35 to 225/40 on my Tamora. The geo was well out but after Mat Smith sorted that out I had only one slight rub on full lock. The wheel arch cover behind the front head lamp was catching the wheel. Quick mod and all is well.
With dodgy geo Tamy handled leagues better with 225/40 all round. With sorted geo, even better.

Agree on the Kumho. I've tried the assorted Toyo tyres and been unimpressed generally but especially in so the wet. I fitted the Kumho's and they are quite amazing in the dry and the best I have tried in the wet too. Mine are 255/35 all round IIRC. They are quite soft and wear rather quickly though, so soft that mine got very sticky indeed on the dyno at Emerald and left black streaks on the floor as I drove it out. It stuck like st to a blanket until they cooled down so I think for a track/road compromise they would work very well if you keep them good and hot. Of course if you want a pure track tyre there are many other options.
Intresting subject that I know nothing about! There are a couple of races this year that I'm planning to do in the ver that require the use of a road tyre rather than a slick.....
I don't have a clue what to go for! Have only ever used the Avon AO48 on the escort and thought they had no grip at all!! But that was comparing to a slick.
You hear lots about the R888??

I use the Kumho v70, massive grip.
They seem to suit the Cerbera very well, they come up slightly wide so the 225/35 would not be stretched to fit the rim, the rears you can use the 245 which is actually more like a 255.
V70 only available in 225/40-18?They seem to suit the Cerbera very well, they come up slightly wide so the 225/35 would not be stretched to fit the rim, the rears you can use the 245 which is actually more like a 255.
I am going to try Pirelli Trufeo R on the rear 265/35-18, i think 17" 235/40-17 is probably the best front size, but that Pirelli size not available.
I have 17" front track rims, but 18's for the road, but i i think i would prefer 17's for tyre choice. (235/40-17 as opposed to 225/40-18).

Oh well, ordered the Nangkangs, went to get them fitted this morning and......the damn fronts don't fit
Do to the slightly increased profile, they foul the front edge of the sill with very little lock applied so basically a none starter.
I don't think I'd get away with 235/35 R18 either, so unless I want the hastle of tracking down a set of 17" wheels, plus having to store them when not in use, trackday tyres are a no go.
Just going to wear out my oval tyres and get another set of F1's I suppose.

- RESURRECTION!**
Edited to add that I have decided against the fronts as I got a set of 255/35/18 rears (new) for 140 so gonna get more info before I change the fronts dynamics.
