Set off from traffic lights, quite a brisk pace, clunk and no drive to rear wheels. Engine is spot on, no leaks or smoke. I've a sinking feeling it's gonna be expensive. Any ideas?

Handbrake on. put into first, engage clutch. get a look under the rear of the car and look for one drive shaft spinning and the other not spinning. The spinning one is the broken one. It will be sheared inside the cv boot.

Any rough estimates on cost. Getting it dropped off at x works in morning if he'll have it.

Did you do the suggested test to prove it was a drive shaft? Not doubting the advice given.
The last time I saw a Cerbera with no drive it was a broken shaft in the gearbox.
He did still have drive, but only in 4th gear, which is direct through the gearbox.

All fixed now, done it myself. I've even got one spare for next time it happens. There was no need to do the test, it had completely snapped just before it bolts to the diff. Cheers for the advice everyone.

A bit less right foot when setting off maybe or it can start getting very expensive! Glad you got it spannered and back on the road quickly.

Does anyone know if driveshafts breaking is a common fault. I'm a bit worried about giving it some stick now. Luckily it's a quick and simple job to do and I've got a spare. I broke it in 2nd and not immediately when setting off.

Tanguero's experience was somewhat more painful, as the broken driveshaft did other significant damage.
