Intake differences

Hi all. This may seem like an odd question, but what are the difference in the intake systems of the 4.2 and 4.5? I've seen 4.5's with silicone pipes crossing over each other, but the 4.2 seem to have direct intakes and a metal rail on top.
I ask as I'm considering changing my Chimaera pretty soon as I need more space.
