I know the tyre choice topic has had a lot of airtime on here, but I need help with a dilemma.

I have a 2000 4.5 running Spiders that currently has 225/35/18 Proxes T1R's on the front and I need a new pair for the MOT.

I would like to have a matching set of tyres all round but finding it difficult to find matching 225/35/18 & 255/35/18 rears that I like. There seems to be more choice if you move to 225/40/18 on the front, however I have read a lot of stories regarding rubbing of the front tyres.

A couple of questions before I find out the hard way, where exactly does it rub, and how easy was it to fix?

Thanks

I'm running ET42 so I guess I will be 7mm further inboard. I'll check and see if I have clearance. I think a 225/40/18 is about 25mm bigger diameter than a 225/35/18

Thanks

I have taken off my 40's - they did a couple of K but due to rubbing had to heighten the front. So not ideal. So 35's now back on. If you are passing you could have the 40s off me on the cheap. I am in the peak district.

Mm mm...

2nd dibs on the tyres if possible, turns out my fronts aren't entirely square!

Cheers

Hi Gazzab, you seem to have confirmed my fears. I guess I will go for 225/35 and work with what is available.

Many thanks for the offer, but happy to pass over to Supateg

The 40 profile tyres work for me, although it is close to the trailing edge of the arch and sometimes rubs a bit on full lock, but seeing as I only use full lock while manoeuvring (usually wink) it doesn't bother me. They are Pirelli P zeros

Thanks for all the help.

Decided to stick with 225/35/18 to avoid any hassle, and i need to get them fitted for the MOT.

Gone for Michelin Pilot Super Sports in the end. Can't get these in 255/35/18 for the rears but thinking I'll get some Pilot Sport 3's when needed.
