Does make it easier removing the fuel rail. But can be done with it it place.

Things to consider whilst doing this.

Replace injector o rings a must if you do remove the rail.

Big fuse replace to a midi type if not done already. Or get rid of altogether.

Oil pressure switch. Mentioned before

I've got Bosch coil packs although before that I have another make which I can't remember I only replaced as I was chasing a misfire.

OK great, I'll get those bits and pieces ordered so I can crack on when I'm mobile again.

Evening all,

Just fitted the adaptor ( the nut sheared off without warning, DOH!) for the coolant sender and I've noticed that when the sender is fully installed the bulb is somewhat shrouded as opposed to being in the full flow of the coolant. Is this likely to be an issue, what do you think Peter?

I was tempted to remove some of the material on the inside with a power file but thought I'd ask first.

It doesn't make a difference. Mine was like this for a long time but I have removed material since but that's when I melted the loom a bit.

Morning Peter,

I've got a mate of mine doing some spannering for me whilst I sit and watch issuing instructions. He's fitting the oil pressure sender at the minute and he noticed that while the instructions make reference to a dowty seal mine only has an o ring. Do you think an o ring will be up to the job or should I be calling SPA?

Also, the adaptor for the sender, does this need any form of sealing or is it reliant on the tapered thread?

Any progress on fixing your motor?

Cheers

Ian

I did use a dowty washer but that was only because I could get them from work.

The tapered thread is fine as that's what it's job is for the sealing.

As for fixing mine not yet. Down in Newquay so got to wait to get back then I can have a look and get the bits ordered. No rush as the tax runs out this month so may well sorn it and take the rack out.

OK I'll rustle up some washers, might as well have it right and do the job once.

Cheers and enjoy Newquay

Hi guys, sorry to jump on your thread.

I've just buggered the temp sender on my original gauge and so am looking at the SPA gauge too. Why did you not connect the original oil pressure pipe to the SPA pressure sensor, which is 1/8 BSP? What is the oil pipe size? Would an adapter work on that end?

Thanks

Morning Ian,

The SPA gauge is all electronic and therefore doesn't require the capillary tube for the temp or the oil line for the pressure.

I think Ian's point is that instead of removing throttles/coil packs/fuel rail as required depending on engine variant, why don't people doing this mod simply screw the oil pressure sensor onto the end of the oil capillary for the original gauge? If thats possible it seems like it would save a lot of work.

Yes, I assumed that the capillary would/could connect to this (tucked away in the footwell somewhere) :

Thanks for the help.smile

Ah right, I understand, never even crossed my mind. I simply went straight for the umpteen bits of engine on my workbench routine smile

Something probably could be fashioned to work, although I guess the direct plumbing route limits the number of potential leak paths, etc.
