I'm looking at 2 cerbs.
Both are rebuilds, which is going to give me less grief.

You'd be better off asking whoever is gonna rebuild it for you. Are you getting them nice and cheap?

Chassis's (chassi) weird word, what's the plural?

The are both good. I'm a shipwright, metal Frp and wood are not that alien to me, I'm not shy about doing some work myself. The engine is the big that will ruin me if it goes. I would prob not rebuild it but mod chassis and replace.

Both engines have up to date rebuilds. By records here, what is better after the rebuild. 6 or 8?

I'm not a thrasher of engines. I know it can 'do it', but it doesn't need to all the time. Track days are not my thing. Should last longer I think!

In terms of parts availability the support for the speed six is better. Brand new heads are available and still produced. Blocks are no longer available for either, but there has been a lot more parts development by numerous outfits on the speed six, increasing future options.

Went through this myself, as I like doing my own work and didn't want to be constantly dependent on the recycled supply.

Depends...? Who did the rebuilds and when?
If the rebuild was a while ago then there is potential for head gaskets (for example) to be on their way.
What type of rebuild eg just gaskets or a full rebuild including all moving parts?

The reason the SP6 has more parts, is it wasn't right in the first place, and was less reliable.. Once rebuilt (as long as both are done properly) I'd say there was little in it..

AJP has no known inherent problems and having rebuilt a couple I can say there is no problem whatsoever with getting parts for them. Blocks are out of production but so are S6 ones and both are lined so unlikely to ever be a problem as you just swap out the liners. Heads for the AJP are not noted for problems and can be easily rebuilt, a new S6 one is over 3 grand.

Buy the AJP is my advice.
