Heat Shielding
Discussion
Morning all,
it feels kind of wrong after the news of Mad Marks' passing to post this but I could use some help.
As I am in the process of having my chassis restored I also need to do all the heat shielding down the transmission tunnel and in the engine bay.
Mine has the old piece meal bits of silver coated fibrous stuff that has pretty much fallen to pieces so could any one suggest what I should use with some pictures of the finished article please and if possible some pointers of where to get it from?
I would like to try and stop the burning of the coating on the chassis rails near the exhaust manifolds, has any one managed to find an effective method of protection for this part yet?
Any help much appreciated.
RIP Mark.

These guys have some pretty good stuff if you don't mind cutting it yourself.
I think that magmashield will withstand the heat a lot better then the original silver stuff.
I like their braided heatshield solutions for pipes and hoses as well.
Very tidy.

Try http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1938-acoustic-heat... I used this a couple of years ago and it's holding up fine.
Replaced all of the original heat shields from here, much better than the originals.

I will be using either an adhesive backed gold or aluminium faced product for the chassis rails. I did think about using a similar product to above and using steel zip ties, but am concerned about moisture being able to enter and becoming trapped.
All this, combined with wrapping the manifolds in DEI titanium should hopefully give maximum protection.

I used Merlin Motorsport and Demon Tweeks.
The aluminium glass cloth for the engine bay cut myself and edged with heat reflective tape.

The gold reflective tape for the chassis by the manifold.

Fur the tunnel the Cool-It Thermo Guard for a bit more sound insulation as well.

A bit of Mclaren F1.
That is what got me, even if it doesn't work a gold wrapped chassis has to be worth its weight in gold, pardon the pun.1 x 9M roll will be ordered as soon as I have spoken to the people doing the epoxy resin coating.
Chassis is being shot blasted this week to reveal the truth about how bad it really is.
