It depends what you want from a car, but I draw your attention to Evo magazine when they reviewed the GTR against the new n/a Lotus Evora - the Evora won out as a drivers car. If you want an awesome weapon that will take on most cars (safely) and spit them out the other end, then there are few such able candidates. But if you want a car that's bristling with feel/rawness/agility and truly rewards the driver with their inputs, then look elsewhere.

A bit of a tangent but..

Today I drove south on the A11 and passing Snetterton 10+ GTR's came sailing past - among them a SL55 AMG, no slouch but we know not a match for a GTR.

Coming out of one of the roundabouts traffic held the GTR's back and the AMG legged it and managed a 100 yard gap before what looked like a modified GTR chased....... Holy mother of china - the way the GTR shot away and caught the AMG was ridiculous. The GTR was spewing smoke from the exhausts but crikes they are quick.
550bhp as standard? I don't think it's too much to take then to 700bhp, which at around 1800kg is some serious grunt. A properly impressive piece of automotive engineering, following the skyline heritage, but it's just not desirable to me, I'v never really been into the fast and furious tuned Japanese car scene although sometimes it's interesting to go to Japfest just to see how far some have taken their cars.

Thanks again all great thoughts expressed. I've been you tubing galore and everytime I see a GTR in sports/super car company it just looks so out of place. (No sophistication or subtlety). Go to the garage and fall in love again however when looking at videos another modern car has caught my eye for ultimate thrills. MP4-12C is a beautiful thing.

Can stomach the purchase (while crying my eyes out) but the upkeep needs its own mortgage or an arm and a leg!

So... Dom just wants to hurry up and release his 4.7ss because I think the cerbera is staying!

Must admit I have been toying with selling the Cerb and getting a GT-R. would have to be a 2009 early model though.
My thinking being I could use it more, as I do big daily miles on my work commute.

Although the mega performance of the GT-R is overkill for such driving it would still be a more daily usable car and still feel special.

I must admit I actually really like the shape of the GT-R, its got that kind of brutally functional jet fighter kind of look about it, big snarling mouth and side air intakes, looks kind of weapons grade without being completely over the top.

Having said all that think the Cerbera still looks very striking with loads of road presence, in fact even more so these days now they are a rarer sight, in an ideal world would like both.

Still all has to be tempered by the fact I am about to dip my toe into racing a 3000m TVR which will probably gobble any spare cash.

I've got the same quandary. Been thinking about a GTR for a couple of years now. I don't use the Cerb as much as I should, 2 - 2.5K miles a year. After 5 years of Cerb ownership (preceded by 4 years in a Tuscan) I'm thinking it's time for a change from TVR.

I don't track mine and do minimal maintenance myself so those are not a consideration for me. As has been said, using the power of the GTR on the roads would be crazy so again it's not that. I think it's the day to day usability whilst knowing what the car is capable of is what is tempting for me. Plus they're not that common. Sure you see them from time to time but not everyday.

The attention the Cerb gets is amazing, the GTR wouldn't get the same attention but maybe that's no bad thing. My 2 boys love going out in the Cerb, but I'm sure they'd love a GTR too, albeit it wouldn't be the same occasion as taking the Cerb out.

I go to Le Mans every year and one of our group went from 8 years in a Cerb 4.5 into a GTR (650BHP) for 5 years and absolutely loved the GTR. On full chat 2nd and 3rd, with a dab of opposite lock out of a roundabout enroute to Le Mans the GTR passed me in the Cerb like I was standing still. I was shocked at how much quicker it is. The power and the way it's delivered are just in a different league.

Might go for a blast today to convince myself I'd be nuts to let the Cerb go.

You lot are playing mental ping pong with me! Every time I think oh just the Cerb and all that, a great comment on the GTR is posted lol.

Now Im back to thinking... hmmmmm the fact now is that I wouldn't change my Cerb for anything this side of a Koenigsegg, Huayra or a P1... unless it was a MP4-12C Or MUCH MORE POSSIBLY........................ a GTR

When I read things like this, I'm sorely tempted...

IN MY most recent review of the Nissan GT-R I said it was pretty much perfect in every way and declared at the end that it’s not a five-star car. It’s the five-star car. I stand by that. If you want to go fast, in any weather, on any road, there is simply nothing else that even gets close.

You know the space shuttle. The pictures would suggest that it lumbered off the launchpad as though it were getting out of bed after a heavy night, but nothing could be further from the truth. When the restraining bolts were released and those 37m-horsepower engines could do their thing, it exploded upwards so vigorously that it was doing 120mph before its tail had cleared the gantry.
Anyone familiar with the Nissan GT-R would call that “a bit pedestrian”. Maybe on a sweeping ribbon of tarmac in the Scottish Highlands on a dry, hot, sticky day the McLaren P1 could just about keep up. But it’s doubtful. And what makes this so extraordinary is that the Nissan has four seats and a big boot and to the casual observer appears to be “just a car”

So, the GT-R is very good. But I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that you’d still much prefer a Ferrari 599 or Aston Martin DBS. If that’s the case, I’m obviously not getting the message across. The Nissan will eat cars like this. Chew them up; spit them out. Bring whatever you like to the party. The GT-R will blitz it. It blitzes everything. It recently blitzed the Nürburgring in 7 minutes and 24 seconds. Do you know anything else with numberplates that could get round as fast? Because I don’t.

There's nothing you can do to a TVR that's going to make it go or handle like one of these.

No one is implying you can.. They are just completely different cars. The Cerb is a raw, hand built, engaging sports car. The GTR is a mass built, 4wd engineering feat driven by computers.

Have you driven one yet? Sometimes you can find potential heros don't live up to expectation. Until you've actually been in different cars you'll never know.

Sounds about right. The money I save should go towards a Powers 4.7!

Matti: Yeah a couple of years back I used one for a couple of days. Didn't get familiar with the tech. Not overly impressed by the drive but I was if anything nursing but speed didn't feel like accelerating quickly even though I was. Had a lovely raspy sound in the exhaust, great feel in an everyday way but wouldn't give me butterflies the day before like I get knowing I'll be soending the day in the Cerb. Also got to rag an SLS mad power but the weight made it feel more sluggish and not confident in speeds.

Keeping the Cerbera!..

Oh I love that blue one!

Regarding driving though, who wants more grip really? To enjoy driving on the roads, grip is bad imo. I kinda like driving in the wet, as you can feel the cars balance at moderate speeds smile
