Hi All. Through pure incompetence, I have very slightly overfilled the oil on my 4.2 by (at most) half a little, and probably more like 400ml. Do i have anything to worry about, or can I just ignore it?

I always worry about over filling since the time I blew oil cooler seals on my '71 VW bus. For the time it would take to crack the sump plug and drain some out I would say don't risk it.

Not really a problem, it may blow some out a breather at worse.

I always overfill mine by about a litre for track days and the like, 8 or so years and all is well.

It will have burnt it in a thousand miles anyway.

Just a question, how would overfilling a sump cause an oil cooler to blow, surely the oil pressure is dictated by the pump not the level?

^^^^^ this, I tend to fill mine when the levels just starting to drop below full, about 1/2 litre and it normally sits about 5 mm above the full mark. I've done 16,000 miles using that principal since an engine rebuild and I have no oil leaks etc.
It'll be fine. thumbup

Mine is about 1cm over the max (there being two cm between min and max on my dipstick). So I'm not taking any chances and, at Aide's suggestion, have ordered a syringe and rubber hose to try and suck some out via the oil filler pipe... Wish me luck!

You need a Pela 650 to remove that half litre. Then you can do your oil changes without any risk of ever spilling a drop. You still pull the sump plug at the end to check for debris on the magnet, but nothing will come out, because everything is in the Pela.

Obviously this is not the Cerb, but you get the idea.
