Afternoon all,

I've got to that time in life when it's time for a toy car.
I've been thinking about various cars and thought that a Griffith 500 was what I wanted. I drove a 500 a couple of weeks ago and wasn't that impressed with the performance.
I'm assuming it was running correctly as it's owned by a well known Pistonheader.
Maybe I've been spoilt by my 430hp 2.7T RS4!

How would those who have driven both a V8 Cerbera and a Griffith 500 say the performance compares?
How does the "Occasion" compare between the two?

No comparison, I used to own a griff 500 and I loved it but it's got nothing on a healthy Cerb. Occasion is the right term, it is an assault on your senses. You need to drive one, mine still amazes me when I get in it after my more regular 500bhp v10 M5, it's much more of an event and much quicker.

Agree, Cerb. No comparison, I've been lucky enough to have driven most TVRs and its still my favorite! Has this, rawness about it that nothing else quite compares too.

The Cerbera is around 500kg lighter than your RS4 and only a bit less power. So unless it's damp I'd say the Cerb is faster and will feel a lot faster due to its rawness.

Handling is good but you do need to drive a sorted one on the right wheel/tyre combination.

If you prefer the open top Griff you could always put one of the Supercharger kits on.

The way the Cerbera delivers the power, there is no other way to describe it other than brutal, which is exactly how a mate described it after getting out of his V10 M5, his words were the M5 is fast but this is just Brutal.

Griff much more even natured, quick but not as Dependant on being on cam in order to deliver.

I drove a v8 rs4 and it felt slow. My Cerb is at the upper end of Cerb power but if you rag it then it's so fast and race car like.

That's the problem - my B5 RS4 was quicker than the later V8 RS4 - I've been spoilt!

I can see that costing £££ though - unless I find one already done.

The RS4 engine was pretty flexible but the way it pulled from 3500 - 7000 could also be described as "brutal".

I'm talking myself into a Cerbera I think!

Both cars are great, but very different engine characteristics. RV8 cars are all about low down torque, running out of steam over 5000rpm, whereas AJP and S6 cars are just coming into their own then. If you like the RS4, I suspect the Cerb (any variant) will be the right car for you.

Suggest you try other S6 cars too before you buy.

You may get a slightly biased opinion in the Cerb forum.
I know of a supercharged Griff that just sold around the £20k mark, but Griff prices are definately on the rise.
Cerb is too claustrophobic for me and love the open air motoring of the Griff but you need to drive a few of each to decide.

Need to sit in and drive a Cerbera and see how I feel.

I'd suggest Fernhurst TVR are near you but they mostly have chimps for sale, no cerbs. If you fancy a trip to gatwick I'm happy to give you a pass ride although I expect others are nearer you.

Hi Maggs,

That's a great offer - I'm in Gatwick now!
Sadly just getting on a plane.

I may take you up on the offer at some time.

Fernhurst had a yellow one a few weeks ago but I didn't manage to take a look.

Steve's car pulls like a steam train so you will definitely get the Cerb thing if you do - it made my mind up!

Controversial post coming up... I have had a Chim and a Cerb. I miss the Chim a lot, I dont drive the Cerbera as much out of choice.
