Rather than the usual "Selling my TVr because it never gets used", i am selling my Chim... that never gets used, to get a Cerb. With more seats so that it will get used.

I want a car that can be used for family outings, something the kids will remember fondly and eventually become an heirloom. i guess.

So...

4.2 or 4.5 ? Much reliability differences between them? I think i want a V8.

Anyone close to Reading that will let me have a poke about their Cerb and take me out for a drive?

Will a child seat fit in the rear?

I'm probably not best to answer your questions but I switched from a two seats to a 2+2 for similar reasons and am very happy with the Cerb. A rare blend of practicality and madness!

The Cerb is really a 3 +1 if you are 6 ft plus. I'm 6'2 and no chance of anybody behind me unless a in a child seat. The passenger seat does go a long way forward giving loads of room for the respective passenger.
Every journey is an experience. I have only driven a 4.5 and was hooked straight away - try to drive a few then make up your mind. This is difficult though as so intoxicating. Marvellous when on song, a pig when not. I hope you are handy with the spammers otherwise deep pockets needed. Love the attention though - sad but true! 6 months into it and been up and down.

If you want a V8 Cerb get one and make sure you buy on condition and history. You will see a lot about this subject on here 4.2 or 4.5 the 4.5 is more expensive, rarer as people say however if it is going bother you then get the 4.5... but buy with your head and not heart..

I have a 1998 4.5 and located in Farnborough so would be happy to take you out.

In the 9kg-18kg range (9 months - 4 years old) the Britax/Romer Prince does and the Duo Plus doesn't.

The main differences will be caused by worn suspension bushes, and valve clearances needing adjustment. Nearly everything else will be cosmetic, which ironically is probably the most expensive to fix or change.

For instance, a full set of shocks is under £500 as a DIY job, and a steering wheel retrim is over £250. But worn shocks would probably put you off a car, whereas you might not even notice the worn leather.

I've had a 4.5 and two 4.2's

During normal, spirited driving, you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference. The only time you'll notice it is when doing top speed airfield runs.

Buy on condition and your colour/interior preference.

I'm in Didcot and have an early 4.2. Would be more than happy to show you around it and go for a blast.

Also I'll be at the H cafe in Berinsfield on Thursday night and might be able to persuade a friend to bring his late 4.2 as well.

Hi there. Im afraid the Cerb isn't going to make it this evening. It has got intermittent oil pressure and I don't want to risk doing any damage to it.

I will still be there and am more than happy to chat about it. I'll be in a blue a yellow rover!

Hi Prizam,

I had the same reasons as you for going to the Cerb, having has 2 seater TVR's before but now a family man I needed to convince the mrs we needed another Practical family car smile

I have 4 year old twins and they simply don't fit with any child seat Ive tried behind me in the drivers seat and Im 6ft, so I made my own in the end, using the booster seats from 'Home Bargains' at £5.99 each, i basically shortened them, then sat them on some non slip matting and now both my kids fit in perfectly and we had our first family trip out in it last weekend and they loved it, albeit with iPads and headphones on smile - do it you won't regret it.

Here's a pic of the finished seats, complete with biscuit crumbs!
