I am considering to buy a Cerbera and, eventually, register it into Europe.
Having the European Vehicle Type Approval may ease things, so I was wondering if Cerberas have it or not.
I've been googling it and found that some late Chimaeras and Griffiths do have it, but not sure about Cerberas.

You can tell if a car has it by looking at the V5, section K. 16 characters starting with e*
Example: e6*98/14/0040*02

Can any gentle Cerbera owner shed some light, please?

Hello!

Only the Chimaera have European type approval. The Cerb has not. But you don't need to have a type approval number to register a Cerb in every country in Europe. I've just registered mine in Bulgaria! Athis depends on your country : the same way UK is in Europe and you can register a Cerb, some countries will allow you to register a Cerb based on the fact it has been homologated "somewhere"

Hi Julien.
Thanks for the info,
But the fact that it has been 'homologated somewhere' within the EU does not grant you to register it straight-away in another country member of the EU.
Without the EU whole vehicle type approval, the car can still be exported, but it will require an individual homologation, which can result in months and a couple of thousand grand in modifications.
I know for a fact it's like this at least in France and Spain.
Maybe Bulgarian authorities are less strict. I don't know.

Sorry, I've not been clear enouhg. My point was just to lead you to discuss with your local authorities to check what can be done, and that though the Cerb has no european approval, there may still be some chance. And yes, Bulgarian authorities are probably less strict than the spanish ones...

Didn't Nils (?) have to sell his Cerb because he couldn't register it in Belgium?...

Maybe Belgium just hates Cerbs as they sound like a terrorist attack going down the road

They wanted a document that didn't exist or something iirc.

I feel that it is VERY much a case of individual Member State's actions and, more specifically, the mood of the Registration Office on the day that you turn up. (Well it defintely was for me, here in Lux)
I had to pay 50€ for a Tax Stamp then had 6 months of repetitively turning up at the Vehicle testing centre crossing every palm "T" and dotting every "i" before they, then, simply gave me my registration.

At the time I almost gave up but, as that was 11 years ago, I now feel that it was time well spent.

All that being, obviously, before BREXIT. I can imagine the situation becoming far more fractious once 'The Trigger' has ben pulled yikes

.... and , No, my Type Approval No does not start with "e*"

I feel the same. It was a lot easier many years ago because the law was complicated and sometimes open to interpretation, so test engineers wouldn't bother too much.
Unfortunately, that has changed. Auditors become more strict, so test engineers do everything by the book to not to have any trouble with them. I exported a car myself a few years ago and all registration stations I visited would do it like that.

Any owner of a late Cerbera can confirm that it does not have the Type Approval, please? I'm looking at a '99 one.
Thanks.

Thanks for clarifying, Mr. Cerbera.
Out of curiosity, how does your Type Approval number look?
I thought it would appear as blank if not having the EU Type Approval.

I was quoting the TAN from my original V5 document, previously.

My new, Luxembourg-issued, document does not have a TAN.

The old format was XXNNN/X/NNNXXXN
It is an '01 model.

Hi All
My 2003 Cerbera has a type approval sticker under the bonnet on the passenger side. I will post the number on here tomorrow before I go to work.

Simon

Only some have it, as far as I remember the only ones that are EU type approved have an approval number starting e11* and ending 01 or 02, there are some ending in 03 which aren't recognised by the French authorities.

Thank you guys for your responses.
It probably sounded like a silly question. It's just this bloody EU vehicle type approval makes a huge difference when exporting the car to the EU. It's a shame Cerberas don't have it frown

Well, it really depends to which country you like to import your Cerbera.

I registered 2 TVRs (Tuscan S and a Cerbera) without any problems (in The Netherlands).
But I also have all the papers and details of my TVRs to register them in Belgium.
I got these details from TVR Belgium at the time of purchase.

But I understand that this way is not possible anymore, look at Nils and his Cerbera.

Guess I am lucky to have those official papers for my TVRs
