Do it. I know we buy these cars for the noise, but there are times when you want to hear your music.
I put an Alpine sub in the boot of my 42 (in standard Alpine housing facing upwards). Was a bit concerned that I wouldn't hear it with the tank being in the way, but even with the sub volume low it sounds awesome.
It does take up a reasonable amount of boot space, so if you are planning on sticking golf clubs in there you may want to make it removable!

Hi - some other options
A company in London imports a 6" x 9" 300w subwoofer made by MA Audio specifically for the UK (apparently we use more of this size than anywhere else in the world!!). I have spoken to the guy there and he has given me the measurements, so I will check whether it will fit in the central dash hole, when I get my car back from Offord, hopefully on Thursday. If so, it will allow a front pair/rear pair/central sub set-up for those of us with early cerbs with the central speaker. Alternatively, Clarion make a complete subwoofer and amp unit with detachable controller that is designed to fit flat under seats or on panels as it is only 75mm thick - see www.clarionworld.co.uk/speakers/sub_twet.asp or blaupunkt make a similar one www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/spkr0_2.asp. I have not heard either of these and they are possibly a bit 'lite' for our useage (although balanced by the fact its in the cabin not the boot) but may help those that don't want to face the complete 'rebuild the car again' game.

Cheers Suffolkfox, That Clarion unit looks the muts nuts. I've been checking the frequency ranges and the Clarion goes down to 20Hz. I've already ordered the Kenwood version which goes down to 35Hz.(www.justkenwood.co.uk/speakers01/kscwa62rc.asp)
