Anyone any idea why my SpeedSix keeps on stalling at start up in the morning? I can pull off the drive and then it almost immediately stalls. If I rev the nuts off it then it’s fine but since I fly to Europe most mornings the 05:00 wake up call is not appreciated by the neighbours. It almost feels as if there should be an automatic choke that is not cutting in..

Anyone any ideas? Or is it just a case of TADTS

This information on starting procedure is direct from TVR, and relates to both Speed 6 and Speed 8 AJP engines;

A) Apply a small amount of throttle
B) Start engine and hold a fast idle of approx. 1500rpm for at least 30 seconds. DO NOT "BLIP" the throttle frantically as this will foul the spark plugs quickly
C) Drive the car normally. Try to avoid
stop/starting without actually driving the car or allowing full operating temperature to be reached. Spark plugs will only clean themselves when they are up to a proper operating temperature i.e 300 degrees C.

It is also worth noting that the Speed 6 engines have a rev. limiter at 2000rpm which is activated after a cold start for approx. 100 engine revolutions. This is to allow the dry sump pump to scavenge residual oil from the engine sump without overloading the pump and associated pipework. Added to this, a revised eprom is available for early Speed 6 cars, which helps to elimiminate cold starting problems. It might be worth finding out if your car requires this modification.

Good luck with the neighbours!!!

Ok if I start the car cold and just leave it running without "blipping" the throttle then it just dies. In fact when I get to the end of the road it always stalls again unless I keep the revs up. It’s fine when it warms up but the first sixty seconds seem to be a disaster of trying to brake whilst keeping the revs up.

Is there some kind of auto choke that isn’t cutting in?

I can sympathise, because exactly the same thing happened to my S6. However this must have been a couple of year's ago and I'm afraid I can't remember the diagnosis.

My solution at the time was to take it back to the dealer for a "re-tune" and have them do whatever was needed - in the long term this of course proves to be expensive - so a call to Andy at APM may be the solution.

He's on 07740-723673.
Sorry I can't be more help.
