Ive read loads of old threads on starter motor problems but none seem to describe exactly the same problem as mine.

Following a long run or after sitting in traffic for a while, the starter motor fails to turn. I just hear a Click when I press the black button and a click when I let go,almost like its trying but has got stuck.
The immobiliser seems to deactivate OK as I can hear the fuel pump and the dash lights come on.

I have to leave the car for between 1-2 hours before it starts again. It always starts when its cooled down with no probs.

If it is just getting stuck I wonder if all it needs is a good old greasing.
Anyone had this prob before, can it be repaired or do I need a new starter motor?

Are they easy enough to take out/ replace?

I can see it but have made no attempt to remove it yet.

Had my starter replaced about 6 months ago, have your same problem with the replacement. Joolz said he will replace it but they are in short supply at the moment. So occasionally just have to sit and wait for it to cool down. Starter is a little difficult to get to but apart from that isn't a big job - easy to say when someone else does it in an hour or so for you!

Had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. After consulting Joolz I got a 2nd hand replacement from a breakers.Got it fitted and are about to send old one for refurb as no new ones available. This is the second starter motor that has failed so will end up with a spare for next time.

Still got a couple of new starters at Curds if you need one.

Just started to take the car apart to remove the old starter motor and things are looking trickier than I first thought.

Ive taken off the rear engine cover, both airboxes and the rear most purple trumpets. I can see the starter motor fairly well but cant see how it will come out with the room I have???. Can I drop it out from underneath?

Also, I can see 2 fairly large allen key bolts that I presume hold the motor in place. Is this correct and are there any more?

Any advice most welcome

Matt.
