About to buy a Cerbera, time to move away from 4wd Jap-mobiles.
Just a couple of questions though, whats the score with the baby seats as produced by TVR, can't find any details as to how much they cost etc.
Also how much might I expect to pay for a set of the 18" Spider alloys, and whats the chance of getting some nice second hand ones.
I searched the classifieds but found nothing.

Thankfully don't have to contend with the baby-seats, but as for the wheels...

I've rung around a load of dealers, independents, etc. and the wheels are all coming in at about £1400 including a set of Toyo Proxes. I've also been looking at alternatives as I fancy something a bit different (thinking of something like the multi-spokes on a DB7/Vanquish). Anyway, for that price you could have a beautiful set of Oz Superleggeras - very classy, very different. Personally, I'm looking at a set of 18" Boss XL300s; £700 with cheap tyres on. Trying to track down a price with Proxes & make sure you can get them with the right fitting (PCD). There may be a need for a couple of spacers + a bit of a tweak to the steering with them (same as with the Tuscan spiders), but an hour or two's work is worth £500 + something a bit different, IMHO.

If anyone's interested, I can post up some alternatives, prices, and contact details once I've finished doing the rounds, as it's been quite painful trying to find the best prices + get the necessary info out of companies.

Regards,

-JS

18" spiders are only £140+vat per wheel, which is pretty cheap for a specialist wheel. Check out the price of BMW or Mercedes top of the range wheels and you'll likely be looking at £500 each.

The above is not including tyres of course.

And on the baby seats.....I have the TVR baby seat and don't rate it, not a good fit and seat belt too close to neck of child for my liking - can't remember what others have recommended but a search on this site should reveal the alternatives.

Apparently the TVR/Recaro car seat thats on the options list is not a baby seat but a toddler seat...

TVR seat AND any seat that fits in the rear is for a toddler. My last child was using the recaro from about 7 months. Fitting a rear facing seat in the front is a nightmare and then makes fitting another adult in the car almost impossible.

So a seven month old is a toddler?
I was under the impression a 'normal' baby seat wouldnt fit the rear seats of a Cerbera, obviously wrong, in which case it might just be a set of wheels I need.
Thanks for the info.

Must remember; don't just post, do a search.

Do the 18" spiders count as "top of the range"? They might be top of TVR's range, but are they really quality merchandise?

The Group 0 seats don't fit the rear, but AFAIK some Group 1's do - if you do a search you'll find loads of threads on this.

TVR supplies a shiny new Recaro seat for £350 , or if you prefer a second-hand leather seat of the type TVR doesn't sell any more , this will set you back £100-£150 for a decent one. We went for the latter option, although Halfords/Mothercare/etc. do seats which fit (Britax, etc.). The cunning bit is to take the car with you when you go to buy it and ask the seat fitting person there to try it in your car before you buy it.

Edited to add: Hiya Beemer!!!

That is a fair point, and if the gouge I tore in one of my spiders with what must have been a 0.5mph kerbing, they are clearly made of sticky-backed plastic and old washing up bottles.

Well I went and bought one on Sunday. Three years of pondering and finally took the plunge on a 97 purple beast. The wheel thing isn't an issue, its got 18" Spiders on already, just need a new baby seat, might visit Halfords for a look at the Britax job.

Well what can I say, quite enjoying the motor (understatement). Did a search on babyseats, still havent found a conclusion. Get the impression Britax and Recaro fit, but looked at the Britax and it didnt half hang over the shallow seat squab, didnt look too clever to me. Whos actually using either type of seat, or has used one for a nine month old nipper? I would really appreciate someones personal opinion.

Our daughter was seven months when we moved her into a forward facing car seat in the cerbie. We have a britax freeway. It does over hang a bit but we ratchet the seat back with a 'mighty tite' seat belt ratchet. If you look at my profile or my husbands 5MUGHubby you will see replies about car seats that have photos of our installation!
