Am I correct in thinking that pre 1997 cars don't
have the audible warning at 7000rpm, only the
visual red light on the rev counter?

Also, is this the same for the indicators, no audible
sound on / off option that the latter cars have?

Finally, my alarm arms and if I use the 6 second trigger,
the lights flash, but I get no audible alarm
from the siren to scare people off.

Is this something that can be turned on or off or is it a
fuse or some other issue?

Nope earlier cars did to (certainly 1996 models )

It can be adjusted via a pot under the dashboard, or so I was told, never did it though, mine was never loud

I must admit I think that there is an audible warning on my car which is a '96 4.2 However, the engine is so loud, and there is so much going on I am not really listening for it.

I believe that there is an adjuster for the level under the instrument binnacle as well, but couldn't be sure about that.

As for the alarm - sounds like the sounder may have been disconnected?

Best of luck "debugging" anyway.

My 96 model does make an audible noise when indicating in fact the noise is different from left to right. Never reached the 7000rpm red line so I don't know if it makes a funny buzzing then.
The car also makes a very soft buzzing noise when the alarm arms and disarms.

Better check the alarm out though by the sound of it.

Darren, can I put the flags out?

My alarm makes no sound on arming, just the indicator flash and I know the siren works just fine as I've managed to set it of a few times changing the battery. I suspect its configurable within the alarm setup, certainly has been on other cars I've had. If you want to test it just leave a helium balloon in the car with the car alarmed. It'll set it off within 10 mins or so.

Ok fingers crossed for you mate.

Any plans for Sunday if you have it?

Thinking about taking a trip down to the Essex meeting
and it would be a good run for you?
Although I'll understand if you don't want to venture
too far from the hospital..

Hmmm sounds like an interesting proposition.
I will have to get my authorisation form filled out in triplicate and submited for signing tonight then.
My Misses is a stubborn get so If I venture to far she will drop the sprog just out of spite Remember go gentle with me, I still have to run the engine in!!
I'll let you know later on in the week what the score is, definately by Thursday.

Excellent, I know you need to put some miles on
it and an M1 / M25 run should do it / you some good.

The Essex meeting sounds like a useful one to be at
for owners and with a pub lunch = grand day out.

possibly in reference to "very early cars" 95 models on N plates perhaps. But my 96/P had a beep and red light on the limiter and have witnesses to prove it

Thanks Darren (FourWheelDrift)

Guess the dash has to come down this afternoon.

You've sold your Cerbera now I believe, but looking at
your profile, do you live at Manor Park / Great Linford?

Oh my god hold the flags out time, I can pick the Cerbera up TONIGHT!!
The guys have commented that they have no idea how I'm going to keep the revs below 3000rpm for 100 miles!! It is meant to be sweeeeet !!
I'm so excited I might have to leave the office early to pick the car up.

I'm really really chuffed for you mate!

Just such a shame that you have those nagging stomach
cramps that you really ought to be at home in bed with!

Mine (96 4.2) does indeed beep when signalling, light comes on at the rev limiter but can't say that I've heard anything, too loud with the windows open. My rev counter is intermittant so the light is the only way of knowing when to change up!!!!!

My alarm doesn't sound either although it does flash 4 times when I lock it (owners manual says 3 but I've heard that's debatable).
If you figure out where the problem is with the alarm can you post it cause is probably the same with mine.

Miles on the M1 M25 are hardly ever good...

My sepetmber 96 P has beeping indicators although they are quiet. I never see 7k rpm (it might get there sometimes but I'm usually busy)

Darren has to keep it under 3000rpm for a few miles, so M1 / M25 are perfect!

Some early models do not have the buzzer fitted and so do not beep when indicating or at the change up rpm.
