Sports pipes fitted, not stopped in last three years. Been followed a few times without any problems, just kept it below 3000rpm. Never been an issue at MOT time either.

Got stopped once (decatted Chim 500) not specifically for noise, more for the related velocity (). No charges, but plods closing comment was "by the way, we heard you coming from a mile away. Keep it down eh?"

Anyway, the law on exhausts:
law said:
The silencer etc. shall at all times when the vehicle is used on a road be maintained in good and efficient working order and shall not have been altered in any way which makes the noise of escaping gases greater.
IANAL, but that seems pretty vague to me. The silencer etc.? So if you maintain the silencer etc. (sic) in good working order and unaltered, but happen to leave it in your garage, you should be OK then? Call me picky, but that wording has holes big enough to drive an Arnage through!

SVA limit is 101 DB's, so I can imagine the police if they wanted to could do you if you were over that

Yes but a TVR isn't built to meet SVA.
ALL cars built within europe have to meet european type approval (check out the little e marks on your lights and windscreens).
To help out small manufacturers the UK introduced the SVA test for those cars being built by individuals or for companies who only made a minimum number of vehicle per year. It is a lot cheaper for them then to meet SVA than European type approval, but does potentially mean getting a car having passed SVA registered anywhere other than the UK is VERY difficult.
If the BiB felt so inclined to pull you for making a racket then I'm sure they would do, what you could potentially be charged with is a different matter. As said earlier how is a BiB going to know either the visible difference or volume difference between standard and no standard exhuast systems on your Tiv.
Personnaly never been pulled, have ben followed by the BiB on a few occaisions though.
