Am just about to have half the car repainted - stonechips etc. The mrs was admiring a cerbera at Pistonfest with a two tone effect (forget what the proper name is), so I'm thinking of doing the whole car now - anyone know who does the paint and what the colour options are?

Hi John

The TVR Body Shop will probably be able to tell you.

Just been speaking to Team Proactive (very, very helpful) as I'm about to have a headlight conversion done. As it's the blended one that'll require a bit of respraying at the front, and I'm going to get rid of the stone chips, I started on the idea of having the whole thing resprayed in a lighter colour - Crystal Topaz, most likely. Got quoted approximately an extra £3k + VAT, and decided that that'd only have be an option if it was yellow to start with.

As for getting yours redone, it'd probably be quite a bit more. The two (or more) tone reflex/"flip"/new-name-for-this-week jobs will are mostly based upon having multiple layers of paint done. Normally a darker under-coat, and lighter top coats, I think (I'm no expert, though). There's all the metal flake options too. Quite a few specialists will do it - there's loads of them in Max Power, etc. , but someone like the TVR Bodyshop/Team Proactive would be able to give you more details, no doubt.

[Edited to actually answer the question!]

I must admit, I do love Crystal Topaz, though I quite like the Techno Violet purple ours comes in
..after the respray, what's the best protection?

Anyone have positive experiences with e.g. Armourfend?

(Saw a green Cerb at Castle Coombe that seemed to have had this done. Looked tidy.)

I think the TVR bodyshop are using a coating to protect from stonechips. I'm not sure which stage it goes on, I think it is a base coat, slightly rubberised to take the impact of the stone without chipping the paint.

Or I could be talking out of my arse

Did a quick check on prices - the two tone chameleon (or reflex)paint comes in at +/- £600/litre and you need 5 litres! Its amazing how good my metallic paint looks- I'll stick with that for the respray, at least until my toddler stops carrying screwdrivers around!

Is that possible £600 per litre! That makes it more expensive per litre than my engine.

Not if you've got a Sp6 needing a rebuild.

Seriously... check out www.rage-extreme.com; they've got loads of different options and, although they seem to be a favourite with the Max Power scene, and I've no idea of their quality beyond seeing a load of photos, it might give you a good idea of what's available.

Their standard two-tone flips are about £160 a litre (+VAT). From what I've read, you'll probably need a base coat slapping on first... Don't think Dulux costs that much, tho!
