autoperform (cerbera for sale)
Discussion
hi there
never heard of autoperform, although their telephone number would suggest they deal more in 911s than TVRs!
You can't really tell anything about the car from the tiny pic and description. I'd do some searches on here for all the questions you need to ask, and give them a ring to see how much they know about the car.
...and get an expert (not AA/RAC) to inspect it!
good luck

Price is ok ish. albeit you can get a newer 4.5 for that price. Doesnt appear to have aircon. Upgraded suspension and brakes - that can be misleading eg tuscan brakes are not really an upgrade. Not all suspension changes are an upgrade. It is basic spec ie 16 inch alloys, not full leather, no aircon.
But silver and red is nice.
Has it got full TVR or recognised specialist service?
Some TVRs arent always fsh ie cos miles are low people dont service every 12 mths as a minimum.
Personally I would only buy private or from a TVR specialist and would get it inspected by someone well known eg Joolz, APM, Rob Ingleby etc..
Remember a trader has prob paid nearer 10K for it.
Has it got recall work done, has it newer seals, clutch, cams etc....

Is there anyway of telling if it's had a new (4.5) clutch, assuming there's no paperwork etc IE. is there something specific you can look for?
Also, I didn't think there was any specific problem with early cams other than being noisy, is there?

Could somebody take a look at the car for sale at autoperform and tell me what they think and as anybody heard of them?
If you're looking there because it's quite local to you, I'd suggest you take a quick 10 minute drive across to Chris. Neils in Northwich & test the Cerberas they've got in to compare. Was over there this morning, and they've got at least 1, albeit with terrible wheels on it.

I live in leicester , went looking at tms and there 96 models are 3k dearer ,got james agger looking for me but liked the silver look ,need to chop in my tt not really got a big budget 6k plus my tt only worth at most 12k.
I'd probably do a private sale of the TT on Autotrader, then buy the Cerbera privately, putting aside a bit of money for a warranty, if you think it's worth having. That way you've got much more choice of cars to go for, don't have to deal with part-ex haggling, etc. (Incidentally, I got a claim put through succesfully on my warranty this morning, so I'm all in favour of them at the moment )
I think the car needs some proper investigation, the price seems fair if the car is right but remember you can easily spend 2k on an early one with just a clutch and a few other bits. They won't have bought that car for 10k, would anybody out there let theirs go for that? I think not!

Anybody ever been to see that Blue T reg 4.2 at "Seal Garage" (on Autotrader). It's been on sale for months now, and has dropped below £20k. Imagine they'd take £19k given how long it's been sitting around. If it's not a lemon, it's starting to look quite a bargain.

Hmmmm...
I always try and steer well clear of these 'independant' garages when buying a car, and especially something as specialised as a TVR.
When looking for mine, I looked at main dealers, TVR specialist, ind. garages and private. Found the best models offered by TVR specialists and private, and the worst at a number of main dealers (thankfully most are gone now) and ind. garages. Often made me wonder just where the f**k these cars came from, and what monkey owned them to treat them so poorly?!?
I dont think you can beat either the knowledge of a TVR specialist or speaking to the ACTUAL owner of the vehicle. In the end I bought privately, as I learnt a lot more about the cars from speaking to the owner face to face.
Just my 2p worth, but I just remember how I felt travelling all over the country to view cars, only to find most of the lemons at these kind of garages. In the end I didnt even bother pursuing, just concentrated on private sales.
Dont think you can go far wrong buying from a Pistonhead!
Cheers,
Tommo

I can assure you that traders are buying them for 10K ! Fact not fiction.
There are plenty of very good cerbs at around 18K private!
I dont see why u r going for such an early car with that budget.
Listen to the advice - tvr indie specialist or private.
£18K may get you a 98 4.5. It certainly should get you a 98/99 4.2. Maybe a little more if you want to pay for a super ultra immaculate car.
Have you tried calling Joolz or APM and asking them if any of their customers are looking to sell a good cerb.
