There are plenty of very good cerbs at around 18K private!

I dont see why u r going for such an early car with that budget.

Listen to the advice - tvr indie specialist or private.

£18K may get you a 98 4.5. It certainly should get you a 98/99 4.2. Maybe a little more if you want to pay for a super ultra immaculate car.

Have you tried calling Joolz or APM and asking them if any of their customers are looking to sell a good cerb.
James is on the case i will more than likely only get 11k for mine then i need some spare cash to take out some warranty.

sounds to me like you are going to stretch yourself and hope that a warranty (they are not popular with alot of poeple here) will ensure that you can run the car for a grand a year. Cross your fingers!
What is the TT , bhp, yr, spec?

£3K is probably a safer figure for 12 months Cerbera ownership.

This way if the dreaded £1600 clutch comes along at least you have something in reserve...

Anyone know anything about this one in the classifieds......

It's got a few miles on it which I know put a lot of people off, but if it's straight and just serviced it's got to be worth £13k

Looks like a bargain compared to what others want for their low mileage cars.
It is a lot more than the trade would pay though.
It it has excellent history, gets a thumbs up from an indie etc then I would go for it !??! It could be a better car than a low mileage one. It is 6 grand cheaper than cars that Bobby has been looking at - that covers a lot of engine work etc !

Hmmmm...

I always try and steer well clear of these 'independant' garages when buying a car, and especially something as specialised as a TVR.

Would agree with the fact they aren't the best people to be buying from - saw some real shockers at independent (non-specialist) garages that you could just tell they'd picked up for a bargain & were hoping to turn a quick profit on.

Having said that, I ended up buying mine from just such a garage after researching the history of the car - ringing up the dealer where it had been serviced and speaking to the mechanics, getting the paperwork for every time it had been taken in, etc. I think it's worth taking every car as a unique case, as there are good deals around.

What sort of things are 'shockers'?
I assume these are 'shagged' engine, crash damage, lack of service etc rather than minor items like stone chips, scratches, worn leather etc

When I was looking for a Cerbera one I looked at a local 'dodgy' dealer had a wheel nut missing, had had a front end bump sometime in it's life, the recorded previous owner was a mate of the dealer and was a dealer himself, the history is never available, it's alway somewhere where you can't see it, locked in someone elses office, at home, at the other branch, etc, the deal has to be done there and then, someone else is always coming to see it and is very keen The dealers that are like this usually look like they spend to much time in the gym and should be avoided or treated very carefully

I would look at it. It fits your budget.
You may well have trouble selling it on - high mileage is a 'problem' for most.
I would go on my own (or maybe a local cerbera owner might come along with you). If you are interested then get an expert along.
I seriously though would call Joolz or Andy at APM at ask them to recommend a car to you that they know a client wants to sell.

I'd never include "cosmetic" things like stone chips, worn leather, etc. on the list - I'd just use them as ways of haggling on price. Mine had both bad chipping & a couple of worn patches on the leather, just got a front end respray and a leather specialist to sort that out. I was more concerned about cars that I saw where:
MIL light stayed on continually
0 service history at all
Mileage being stuck at 20/30k (as happens), and NOT having even been fixed (makes you wonder how long it's been stuck)
Gearboxes about to give up the ghost - crunching when changing at high revs from synchromesh wear, box popping out of 5th gear

In general, just things that would've been sorted, even with a temporary fix, if they knew the first thing about "cars" rather than "sales".
