Stalled in traffic last night - went to start the car and the starter was just grinding. The AA recovered me and it is now at APM.
Thanks to the black cerbera for revving his engine and getting in the way of the guys trying to push my car - very clever, not! I am happy to present you with a tw*t of the year award if you are available.
Now going to try out my £50 AA warranty. Will be handy if they will pay for this.

Yipeee.
AA said they will pay for it - all they need is for APM to call them with mileage and estimate and they will pay for it (assuming it is the starter).
They were really pleasent and helpful. Nothing like my dealings with WHA in the past.
So far so good.

Sorry to hear this Gary.

Let me know how you get on with the AA.
Might be worth me adding that cover after all...

thanks Graham.
Not sure that you can still get cover for TVRs from the AA. But worth a punt at only £52pa.

Gary.
Sorry to hear of your problems, and of the tw*t in the cerbera. He obviously didn't try to lend a hand. Very odd.

Nice to see the AA are paying out. It'll help towards the costs.

Just tried adding parts & labour through RAC membership.

Got all the way through including taking car details, then spat it out at the last minute when taking payment details (don't do TVR's)- Boo Hoo!!!

Damn - cover was very good as well with £2250 max for 3 claims.

With all these starter motors going bust, I would rather like to see one. Anyone got any old starter motors they wouldn't mind letting me have?

Sorted, just phoned AA, they told me TVR no problem, covered till my renewal next august for £39, you can't grumble at that!! With the AA being who they are they are going to have to behave with claims for existing members otherwise theres always RAC, Green Flag etc. I would say give it a go for £52 even just for the odd starter/electrical/clutch problems

Gary - sorry to hear about the breakdown, but good news that the AA are looking like they will pick up the tab!

I'd just like to say that the black cerb tw@t was not me. Unfortunately, mine is currently laid up at Topcats waiting for the engine to be removed plus I would have got out and helped to push!

Barry (BigBazza)
Glad to see you managed to get AA parts and labour cover. Apparently some guys are having problems. Like you, it was straight forward for me. Lets hope you won't need it.

It just seems a shame to throw them all away. Not much to go wrong in the starter motor. Windings/diodes, I have to believe its similar prolems with all of them. So would be interested in any throwouts

you don't throw them away, the old units go for reconditioning, you can't get a new cerbera starter any more, I use a specialist outfit darn sarf and have only had one bad starter from them in all the time I've been using them - even main dealers ask me where I get them from! The one bad starter was changed within 2 working days and back on the car, can't fault service like that really, owner was chuffed to bits the wire between the solonoid and maotor unit had burnt out so possibly not even the reconditioners fault either seeing as it comes part of the bought-in motor unit ..

whatever

So this rather begs the question of what the factory are putting on the new cars. Are they just running down the stock as they wind-down production of the cerb (hope not) or have the specs of the starter changed over the years?
