Excuse my inability to articulate, but my engine experience is limited to my old MGB.

In the top rear centre of my 4.2 AJP engine, I appear to have what looks like a vacuum advance thing? A copper/brass coloured pot, standing vertical, about 3 inches wide and 1 inch deep, with a little inlet/outlet tube facing towards the front of the car.
Now, to me, that little tube is crying out for a little black piece of tubing to be attached to it, am I missing something, or is that how it should be?

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator to me. I think you can probably rest easy on the notion of anything being missing.

Edited to say, but you might want a second opinion from someone slighty better qualified than me!
