Something to think about!

I know it may not be a concern to people now but may have a negative effect on values 30+ years down the line.

Hot dip galvanising only delays rusting but eventually the steel will rust especially in areas that are affected by impact damage (stones) or heat cycles.

How do you refurbish a galvanised chassis? Galvanising changes the surface structure and composition of the steel and welding is difficult with the weld being brittle, especially on thin tube.

A galvanised chassis may be a selling point for the next few years but may require a replacement chassis when these great machines become "vintage" cars.

You can always repair/re-paint a powder coated chassis and if done properly combined with wax injection into the tubes it should last way longer than the original.

Given that a 3 micron zinc coating on mild steel in a hostile saline environment has a service life of around 80 years before corrosion of the steel starts is this really an immediate concern?

Claims like this offer a false impression of the protection that galvanising offers. Look at trailer chassis that are over 10 years old, especially where road detritus impacts on the galvanising.

I am not saying that galvanising doesn't offer considerable protection. It does. I am just pointing out that there are environments on a Cerbera chassis where heat and abrasion will greatly reduce the life expectancy of the protection.

What are the opinions about hot zinc sprayinG the chassis? And then a powdercoating or another sort of paint.

I think this is my preferred route.
