AndrewW-G said: PininFarina will do anything you like as long as the cheque clears as will Ferrari / Classiche, but they are a little more difficult to agree to a commission that deviates from standard spec (good customers can however have what they like, including having the none original engine in their car, restamped with the original engine number!) The GTO would be the easiest to convert as it is essentially just a heavily tweaked 308/Mondial, which are easy to swap from LHD to RHD . . . . . although you may well have a few issues come resale time Thanks for the response. A few followups: - If my hypothetical 288GTO was professionally converted to RHD by the factory, would that not improve the resale value if it were the only such model in the world? If it were me and I had the choice of RHD or standard LHD, I'd go for the RHD as the steering wheel would be on the 'correct' side for me (as long as I was satisfied as to the competence of the conversion, naturally). I'd also be prepared to pay a little more for such a vehicle, although it may not be such an issue for others. - On your other point: if I was a 'good' reliable customer and somehow missed out on a 599GTO, would the factory build me one to that spec but pass it off as a heavily personalised 599GTB? (It wouldn't be badged as a GTO but would be otherwise identical.) Or, from another angle, if I had a standard 599GTB, could I have it upgraded to 599GTO spec after the fact? Sorry for these increasingly insane 'what if'? scenarios, but I'm always curious as to the limits of what manufacturers are prepared to do for their favoured customers.

The F40 does look lovely in black. Does the owner get any (negative) comments from Ferrari traditionalists about changing it from red?
Also, to the other F40 owners: do you spend much on annual upkeep and maintenance? Or is it just the one-off bills that make it expensive in the long-run?

Only had positive comments about the colour change. I bought the car to use and plan on never selling it. I have changed things on the car to make it how I want and will continue to do so. In terms of cost of ownership, the f40 is quite cheap to run. Certainly compared to a mclaren or zonda! Bills tend to be about 2k a year. It's actually a very simple car to work on when compared to anything modern. Also consider that the values of these don't drop like a 430 or 458. I swapped by 430 spider +10k to buy my car!

That is dangerous to hear as those are the arguments that run through my head when I think about buying one! But I think I should have taken the plunge a few years back as I seem to recall that they used to come up at around CHF 350k but now seem to be at CHF 500k...I suppose if that rate of increase in value keeps up then perhaps now makes sense too.....

No not yet, keen to hear more as and when the DK upgrade is ready. I don't want to have to put on the bigger wheels. I also find for road driving the brakes are ok, but it would be nice if there was a genuinely good alternative
What have you got on yours? I see from that Jay Kay video that he has just bought another F40, must have been recent as to the best of my knowledge he didn't have one in June

Firstly, superb photos. Its a passion of mine and will encourage me to continue taking some, as a hobby though.
Andy your F40 looks the absolute dogs dooda's, stunning. If your giving it a run in Chelsea let me know, as I would love a look at it in the flesh! likewise for the the Zonda, probably the best sounding car ever made, followed closly by the F50 & LM, testarossa, 250LM, Jag XJR12 le mans car, McL F1 gtr and LP640 (with an exhaust). Dont get me started on the subject!
ps. would be good to do an interview of your ownership experiences for my website, streetsupercars.com

Put twin cylinders on it and new pagids pads and now car is completely different, no complaints for road driving and it has rarely seen a track. Pic here of the box My car already has uprated calipers but still using std wheels.

With regard tot the issue of RHD versions of LHD only production cars I figure that if it was a well known conversion then their wouldn't be an issue with it. I can understand why their is a demand for RHD versions of these cars, when I test drove an F40 I felt I'd rather be sitting in the 'right' position on the road. However some purists would argue that these cars were designed for LHD and compromises were made in RHD format. A good example is the F40, which I understand has a 328 steering rack rather than the one designed for the F40 - some would argue that the driving position is also not quite as comfortable (pedals offset too much). If ever I get another I'd probably go for a LHD myself. With regard to servicing they are pretty cheap, standard costs around £1200, but the tanks need to be changed (bags) every 10years and that's labour intensive and will cost anywhere between 6-8k.

I could have swapped my 360 and very little cash for one back in 1999. Look at things now. A 458 spider with decent spec and premium is nearly 300k. You can still get F40s for close to that.
