No acctually they were all built from original cars by pininfarina. I believe they left the factory in red and were resprayed a kind of metalic grey/green when converted to RHD. All for the Sultan, mine was then resprayed red by a previous owner - I have just sold ot on. Fab car!

It's an F40, a motoring icon, yet for all that positivity you see "equal" negativity because the plate spells F40 then the owners initials? It's perfect! I reckon if I could afford an F40, i'd drive around with the plates "E4T s t" or similar and just accept the fines as a running cost of the car. Also think i'd need sponsorship from Kleenex if I owned that black one.

Or are there two RHD ex-Sultan, ex-grey F40s around?

There are two in circulation, I believe, but if yours was the one restored by Terry Hoyle then they are indeed the same car!

I believed there were at least three I may be wrong though, ours came from Talacrest about 2002 from memory and then we had it resprayed and is now in Australia I believe.
It was my fathers car really from our records I think chassis was 87455

Beautiful car the F40, I need one in my life some day. You can keep all your modern day supercars, the F40 is where it's at for me.

Very well with such a fabulous collection as would I. I was being pedantic when there was no call for it, no offence to the owner.

Just out of curiosity: if your pockets are suitably deep and you're determined enough, would it be possible to convert something like an Enzo, 288GTO or maybe even a Veyron to RHD? If so: - What sort of money would we be talking? - Are there any mechanical / handling issue involved with such conversions? - Would the factories do the conversions or can they be done by the likes of Pininfarina? As well as the F40s, I know that there's a few RHD F50s in circulation and even the super-rare Merc CLK-GTR had at least two right-hooker models. Inevitably, the Sultan of Brunei's name tends to crop up in such discussions...

PininFarina will do anything you like as long as the cheque clears as will Ferrari / Classiche, but they are a little more difficult to agree to a commission that deviates from standard spec (good customers can however have what they like, including having the none original engine in their car, restamped with the original engine number!) The GTO would be the easiest to convert as it is essentially just a heavily tweaked 308/Mondial, which are easy to swap from LHD to RHD . . . . . although you may well have a few issues come resale time
