Considering the 355 is a decade old, their performance figures are quite similar;

top speed -183 MPH
T350

top speed -175 MPH
As for which tis more desirable @ £40k , there's only one winner in my eyes, but then i would say that
It will be interesting to see what the T350 is valued at in 10 yrs time....
... and there is absolutely no way that TVR has caught up to Ferrari in suspension, steering and balance during that time, much less sell it to you for only £40k.
Don't get me wrong - full throttle on the Griff from a standing start down a long straight is something I'll never forget,... but taking a high speed turn or a lef-right-left in the 355 could be exactly the thing you need to forget about TVRs!

Obviously you prefer the Ferrari, whereas I prefer the TVR.
As for the value in 10 years, I dread to think.
But, back to the original question. With a 40k budget, which to buy. For me, out of the two, TVR.
If, however, the budget had been 80k, i.e Typhon v 360, I could never see me saying TVR.
but with 80k i'd be walking into a Porsche dealership

Have done a track day in a 355, and to be totally honest was not impressed at all.
Once you got over the fact that it was a 'Ferrari' I though it was a tad dull.
'Dull' is a something that has never entered my mind since owing the T350 (although haven't tracked it yet for a comparison).

I've owned both 355 and Griffith 500 so hopefully am well placed to comment
Have nothing but fond memories of the Griff - OK it had too much power for its chassis to cope with but was lots of FUN and sounded great. The build quality was not great, especially poor rust protection on the chassis.
The 355 was nothing but trouble - I think I was unlucky in that mine spent more time at the dealer than in my garage (this was a main dealer car with Ferrari warranty). This was due to electrical gremlins with the cat control units (common problem). I was also put off when I spoke to specialists about exhaust manifolds and the number of major engine rebuilds they had done - I was told that with the 355/360 Ferrari had over-stressed the engine whereas the 348 was pretty much bulletproof. I also got fed up with all the respray work (rear butresses). In the end I got sick of worrying about it and got rid of it (lost a fair bit on it too).
Now moved on to Porsche - looks promising so far.

I was just curious if many of the former or current TVR owners who switched to a Ferrari of some sort had ever considered the Ultima GTR? The TVR is a very viseral, raw car and it's seems like the Ferrari is much more refined so it's such a big leap between the two, why not the Ultima? I was curious what peoples impressions of this car are by comparison.

The Ultima is very visceral - 480bhp, over 500 ft lb of torque and weighs about 1040kg. No driver aids at all, handles very well, fairly smooth ride and surprisingly easy to drive (my mate shared the driving to Le Mans). With all that torque on tap it hardly needs a gearbox! I guess I'm just in need of a change and want something a bit more refined that I can use for work when I want to. Driving the Ult's like driving round in a racecar. I also realised quite a few years ago that no matter how good the car, I'll want to change it just for the sake of a change at some stage.
