garage flooring advice ?
Discussion
I'm just putting up a new pair of timber framed buildings for garages / car storage.
Samll one is 6.5m x 6m and the large one 14.5m x 8.5m
Given the sizes I think I'm going for a self coloured powerfloat concrete floor wather than a ceramic tile.
Ceramics look great if you just want a showroom, but aren't practical if you actualy want to work on stuff.

I bought some tiles from ecotiles a few weeks ago (just need to find a time when I'm not working to lay them). I'll post an update on how they went down and try and get some photos.
I looked around at various options for about a year and decided to bite the bullet and go for the tiles as I intend to stay at the house I'm in for quite a few years yet.

My effort. Had to have the ceiling plaster boarded and skimmed after putting an extension above the garage for fire safety building regs. I then decided to continue with insulating the walls and boarding them as I had most of the materials spare. Was just going to paint he floor again but found these porcelain tiles for a total of £165. Adhesive and grout was £150 and took me a couple of weekends to complete. Then fitted an electric roller door. This was 2 years ago and still looks fresh and easy to clean:
Unfortunatly its not a 430 in the middle of the garage !! All the kids toys are now out of the garage with just my car parked in the centre.

As gravity will agree I'm sure epoxy paints will last years if the floor is prepped correctly and Karndean or anticoagulant is not suitable for a garage. If its a vinyl type product you want JHS do a good interlocking tile and Forbo do a great product called colorex that interlocking and ver very strong, will not expand and is great on not perfect subfloors. I also run a flooring company.
interlocking tiles are crap IMO, water and fluids get into the gaps between them.
tiles crack if not liad correctly and break if anything is dropped on them.
i am going for a epoxy finish this time, done properly with correct preperation to stop any damp etc, it will not lift. they also offer a coating to give it a super hard finish, will protect it from tyre marks and stones etc.
all depends on how you use your garage.

The better interlocking tiles are superb. They are well-engineered with tight fitting joints. You are totally incorrect about cracking and breaking. You can use jacks and engine hoists on them, a shallow indentation may be left once heavy loads are removed but this then recovers to flat and level.tiles crack if not liad correctly and break if anything is dropped on them.

Interlocking floor tiles wouldn't be used in this sort of application if your point of view was correct.
