i've recently imported two cars from the states which is slightly more complicated, one was 20 years old the other was 3, anything over 10 years is slightly easier, do not be put off i had no major problems and dvla were helpfull, the admin took longer than i hoped but a euro import is less trouble, go for it now especially as the exchange rate is currently on your side.

Thanks all for the advice. I must admit that I had visions of having to pay 20% in tax upon importation so it's reassuring to know that this probably wouldn't be the case on a car already registered in Italy.
Thanks again
Guys, this is an interesting read as I'm considering importing a 512M to the UK from Germany and am concerned about the tax situation. What form of paperwork do I ask for to prove to HMRC that VAT has already been paid? Also, do I need a CoC? Car is obviously over 10 years old.

likewise just been in germany looking at a Fez and away to do my homework. Some of the cars i viewed were priced with vat paid and some were ex vat and needed vat cost added. These were 2nd hand cars incidentally. the chat the ferrari main dealer gave me was that its fine if you buy the car through a company- i said no Im buying it private and dont want the hassle of buying it through my company. Again something to watch as a private buyer the prices of some 2nd hand ferraris are all over the place as its not quite comparing apples with apples if VAT has to be paid on top of the price at the dealer. the plus side is then at least you know where you stand when you drive it back and HMRC stops you at the border.
