Prices on these seem to have come down quite a bit, circa £40k for the lowest ones. A lot of car for the money. Does anyone have one as a DD? Are there any options that are a must for resale later on? Anyone been keeping a closer eye on prices and do we think they've bottomed out a fair bit now?

No, we're all too busy driving our cars.

Now its raining............

I use mine as a DD whenever possible - no troubles - suggest you get the full auto for DD and it has to be a 4.7l

I'm in the same boat. What about skyhook options etc?

I dont own a GT but have its predecessor, the GranSport.

From what I've read, as Devonboy said, the 4.7 is the one to go for but this wasnt availalbe until 2008 and I think prices still start with a 5.

What little I know of the GT suggest that they're pretty well spec'd as standard.

If you can - go for the S - it's the sensible option! And you don't need the skyhook option....

Enjoy!

As stated above go for the S, or if your budget cant stretch to that how about going for a Gransport like me !
The gransport is lighter, quicker, more sports car than the earlier 4.2 GTs.
Gransports seems to be holding values much better than early GTs.

I run a gts with the mc shift as a nearly daily driver. Does everything really well. Car parks can be a squeeze at times and the fuel is never cheap.

It's been back to the dealer a few times but never for anything serious. The worst was a strange ticking noise from the wheels when I set off. I wouldn't want to run one without a warranty though.

The s is the one to go for if you can stretch to it.

Running a GTS Auto as a DD doing about 11-12k miles pa, had it a year. No better or worse than fast German stuff for faults.

As a DD I would avoid the MC Shift - great car but it's more of a weekend blast car with shorter gearing and clutches to wear out. Don't shoot me down, just my opinion.

The GT is not a bad car though and if you want an auto and want to spend under c£60k retail then that is what you will get.

Practically all autos have skyhook and the MC Shift is split between the single rate set up and skyhook. The latter really firms up when the sport button is pressed and they can be hussled pretty well by paddle shifting the box in sport.

Views on prices depend on perspective but £40-45k retail for a near five year old £80-85k car strikes me as a strong residual.

I use a MC Stradale as my DD, fantastic car - no problems to date. Previously enjoyed a 4.7 MC Shift Sports Line GTS, again fantastic and before that had a straight forward 4.7 MC Shift GTS. Highly recommend them!

Happy hunting.

I think this is as good a recommendation as the anyone needs, however I read the OP that hes at the early 4.2 c£40k cars, not 4.7's, MCs etc

I saw a stunning white MC/Stradale with black wheels in the Bentley Leicester showroom a few weeks ago ... Really is a great looking car in that combo

They are all very well built with no known problems, I wouldn't hesitate to go for an older one provided it had a full service history, however, I would definitely have a PPI done to ensure there were no nasties lurking as these are not your usual inexpensive motors to maintain.

The MC Stradale not only looks stunning, it's a phenomenal drivers car too and complements my other toys perfectly smile

Having owned a few Maseratis' I agree that the Granturismo is as good as the Germans for quality and build whereas the older cars were not.

The advantage of the 4.2 (or 4.7 Auto) is no clutch to replace which keeps costs down. Mind due to that, the autos are bought to do greater miles so the brakes might be nearer replacement - swings and roundabouts!

Rough starting prices are £40k for a 4.2, £55k for a 4.7 MC and £60k for a 4.7 Auto. Cheaper if you can buy in the trade as dealer margins are high on Masers or if you take mega mileage cars.

The Gransport is the best Maserati by far.

I just bought a silver 4.7 mcs one... took it for its maiden voyage on thursday to cornwall for the weekend.. So what do i think... well i have owned the rs6v10 the m6 v1o the quattroporte the 550 and a few others including porsche..and countless tvrs

honest opinion about this car... well my first impressions is.. are you maserati gt drivers aware of how a properly set up car should handle..!!?

The steering on this car is way to light way too light although to its credit once over the speed limit it seems to firm up but any thing under that the steering is way to light and when the car goes over a bump it feels like its going to break..seriously thats not a joke thats how it feels.. Why hasnt any one discussed these flaws

but saying that even with its flaws the car is still a keeper.. why.. the engine sound of the mcs version is incredible ..the 599 box is great even as a daily although in two days i have found it can be a little irritating when cold.. the thing about the car is that it has character ..it has real sports car character.. it feels alive at high speed and you are aware that you can put a foot wrong.. with some other sports car you loose that sensation and you push the car faster and faster before you get that feeling..

i think they made a flawed but very special car if i was going to improve something it would be how to get the suspension to feel more solid and how to just get that steering to be a little more weighted.. any ideas..?

Thanks guys for the honest and detailed recommendations. It looks like a Maserati it is! Will be test driving this weekend and no doubt see some at Salon Prive too. Something that has caught my eye which I will be getting in a few years is the Alferiri OMG what a car!!!

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O7aROFPkB34

Apparently they will now be releasing in 2017 so once they have had a year or so to kick out the issues I can upgrade!! Sensational car and should be well priced to beat the newer Aston range...

So in the mean time a Granturismo or Grancabrio will certainly keep me occupied! 😀

GranTurismos are great cars but don't expect the Alfieri until 2019 if at all. Rumour is that the new GranTurismo - at least two years away - may be produced in a sportier version to try and cover this base.

As with anything Maserati, all model announcements and time scales are subject to change!
