Are there any charity events this year where you can donate to get a ride in an F1?

f1ten said: does anyone know what happened to the McLaren F1 that was in Chelsea, reg plate M1MAC? i think he has recently sold his house, but the car dissapeared a long time ago and he moved the reg plate to his Cayenne Turbo 5 + yrs ago. We've determined that was Paul Burdell's car - chassis #024. After he sold the car it was resprayed silver and the interior was redone in the GT-spec with red leather. It came to the USA in early 2002 and for a few years was owned by Jim Clark of Netscape/Silicon Graphics/Healtheon fame. In late 2005 the car was sold again, this time to NY collector Gary Schaevitz who still has it in his possession today and brought it along on the F1 Tour. Here's some older photos I have handy of the new paint and trim taken in 2003 in the showroom of Shelton Ferrari where the car spent quite a long time being displayed while Clark owned it: >8^) ER

It looks bloody dangerous too if you ask me. A padded area within a small recessed section of the monocoque coupled with bolt on seat belts in my opinion does not constitute a seat. What I am intrigued with is how the seat belts have been bolted in? The last time (which was over a year ago I had an opportunity to look into a race going GTR, I do not recall seeing seat belt anchorage points fitted to the tub. Only a fool would attempt to fit seat belts in a non strengthened area of a car. The risks are just far too great. Does anybody else share my view on this matter? Out of interest, does anybody know how the seat belts shown in this particular GTR have been fitted? Safety should NEVER be compromised and I doubt very much that a Company like McLaren would perform such a conversion. One other thing. Where does one place his or her legs. Unless the passenger is less than 4 foot tall, there simply isn't enough room.

It's a seat for a young child and I am certain Andy and the people who implemented it for him made zero compromises on safety.

If I'm not mistaken that's Andy's car and that's where his kid sits

>8^) ER Interesting from an engineering aspect point of view how they would have achieved it without seriously beefing up the mounting points. I believe but I am not 100% sure that the fuel tank sits directly behind the seat wall area of the monocoque, so simply bolting on strengthening plates would be extremely difficult to achieve. Either way its not a concern of mine. I just find it bizarre that people go to those lengths.

Devaluing only has any argument if you plan on selling or you actually give a hoot about the next owner and his obsession with you keeping YOUR car original. If the car has been made road-legal it's no longer original and in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter unless you aspire to collect rosettes from men with beards and corduroy trousers on the weekend.. The car has been made functional so why the issue of making it more-so? Talk of value really irritates me with cars, they are made to be driven and if they are not driven then ownership should be forfeited (to me). How a car should be used

Great video, perfect car, perfect colour, perfect attitude. Only one issue, get rid of that modern stereo and put in the original. If he wants the sound quality he can get an original face plate with modern electronics behind it

Sofoklis said: As individuals, each and every one of us have personal tastes and preferences. Those who dislike red will obviously not like it. Those who do will probably love it. The purist will say its too loud and aggressive. Personally I am not a huge fan of red and if I had a car like the F1, I would probably go for something a little more subtle. There is something about this white and Red car though that I really like and its growing on me with the more photos I see. With the exception of the race car liveries, this is so radically different in many ways, it makes you want to like it just because its a break from the norm. I say well done to the owner for being brave and different. A real stand out car. Love the wheels and the carbon dash but the titanium exhaust tailpipes look bloody awesome. Is it me or has he also opted for an LM style handbrake and gear lever? Nice touch I say you're talking rot. It looks totally rank!

It looks totally rank! Like I said previously, everybody has their own opinion and personal tastes. Unfair to quote me as "talking rot" simply because I have a difference in taste to yours BOBBY G

Well it really only matters what one person thinks - that's the man who spec'd it out and wrote the check. I can tell you he is indeed quite pleased with the car and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have much concern about whether anyone else likes it at all either.
