We've got our air show and car event at the RAF base I'm based at on Monday and I stupidly didn't think to throw out the offer for him to bring a car along and look at some proper helicopters!

The looks, the V12 sound, the driver involvement and the overall experience is quite mesmerising. Cold tyres and wheel spinning at stupid speeds, it's not something to push hard if you don't know how to drive, are half asleep or the road is wet - get a 458 to cover those. Peak horsepower is in the upper echelons of the rev range so unless you want to be sideways you need to anticipate it being on-cam.

No one is denying the market is hot but really at this stage of the game it depends on your level of paranoia, negativity, soberness or experience. Of course, it may be about owning something that you want to keep come-what-may but appreciate that is a boring for the market crashers.

I wish I could drive a 599 GTO - I am only 21 and still a student. Although I saw a beautiful GTO at the Ferrari Concours at Stapleford Park, Rosso Fuoco with a Tricolore Stripe and a Black Roof. Absolutely Beautiful and sounded heavenly on startup! I have heard you generally have to be a pretty handy driver to hustle them at pace! Even so, the GTO has never been cheap.

Nope They were about 1 year ago, maybe 1 1/2 years ago about the £280-310k mark, then the ex tamara eccleston sold at £350k, but I can't believe in 6 months a car with nearly 2000 miles more is worth double the money, Im sorry I just can't. Surely prospective buyers must see that is just too much for that particular vehicle, I also think you're into F40/F50 territory at that kind of money.
The market as it is, is not a sustainable market, it seems far more speculative to me than anything else?

Crazy. and thanks for linking me to the thread so I got to see Tam Ecclestones car, that was sat in my lottery garage on auto trader for ages (I was going to drive it a tiny bit then keep it as an investment as I foresaw which way it was going to go). Price I think started around £310k to begin with though. Cream leather interior rather than suede though.

That's the car I bought in Grey with Cream Leather and just 280 miles. Love it!! Took it to Italy and added another 1400 incredible mikes. Great motor and a keeper and as I got it for the then asking price not a bad deal!

599 GTOs are amazing, drove one only a few miles but so much more to it than a standard 599, Dick Lovett have my ideal one at the moment, RHD too.

Im definitely jealous of you Falcon, but glad you are actually driving it a bit rather than keeping it locked away! How does it fair up on the GT credentials and a long drive over to Italy? Anything that has surprised you in ownership?

The great thing about this car is that you can drive miles and miles comfortably and with little road noise interference (nice when with the Misses!). It has loads of room for bags etc in the boot without cramping the cabin. BUT it can turn into a beast in a milli-second when needed. Then it sounds awesome (especially in Race mode) and then it is a completely different animal. I have to say I cheated in Italy. I couldn't face the long drive over the continent, which I had done thrice in one of my other sports cars over the last three years, so I had it professionally transported to the airport in Italy and did all the miles whilst in Italy itself. We went to the Italian Lakes and had some great drives over there up on all sorts of roads. The other thing I like about this particular car is that the colour scheme actually "hides" the car. Not many people know what it is let alone it being a GTO so you get around with less fuss! I was looking at a red one in Manchester when I bought this one and it just looked less in your face which suited me.
I like being under the radar in that kind of a thing, I remember when Matt Munson went with his friend in his Rosso Corsa LaF, to pick up his friends Light Grey Laf from the factory, theres a photo in a petrol station where there's crowds round his red car, but none round the silver/grey LaF even though they are filling up in adjacent pumps! I think the GTO looks much better in darker colours, although rosso fuoco does look rather lovely. Ideal specs for me would Be Grigio Silverstone, Tour De France Blue, or Rosso Fuoco. Probably with cream leather, they just seem to work.
You certainly picked a good colour, as darker colours go slightly more unnoticed. but if it was rosso scuderia or something like that everyone would know you've arrived (if they hadn't already heard that sensational noise already).
Also appreciate why you'd fly the car over, as although you have driven it, it is still a mileage sensitive vehicle, if indeed you still see it as investment as well as a great car?

Cant seem to get away from your cars on social media at the moment Wops, they're bloody everywhere - your speciale does get about - lovely photo of it in Knightsbridge on Such_supercars . Black does look beastly on the GTO but I think In this instance id prefer your speciale - such a first world problem to have! Hope you enjoyed thrashing the red old girl round Anglesey with Anjum and the rest!
